I am about to enter a masters program in linguistics at my university in southern california. In about 2 years, i will have to my name: 4 years experience teaching english in tainan, BA in History, MA in Linguistics/TESL, and a Single Subject Teaching Certificate for Social Sciences.
I plan on returning to Taiwan and getting a job teaching at a university. What do you think my chances are in landing a gig? How would I go about applying for jobs (I want to stay away from recruiters).
Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Michael

You might find some useful information on Scott Sommers Weblog. He posts here from time to time and keeps himself up to date with the goings on at universities.

Unless things have changed these are some of the biggest reasons that foreigners tend to stay away from Taiwan's Universities.

Salary caps that limit the highest salary available for foreigners to below that of a Bushi Ban teacher.

Two months hold on the first months pay so the University can collect the interest off your salary.

Having to redo the health check every year just because the government on Taiwan dictates that non Chinese are of a lesser blood line thus more susceptible to deceases.

Being blacklisted for not obeying every command of your employer or just because they can.

The backward approach the government on Taiwan takes to accrediting qualifications.

Widespread corruption at all levels in the public education system on Taiwan.

Welcome to Taiwan!
A.
