Hello. i am heading to Valencia in September. my plan is to do a month of spanish immersion, then hopefully get work teaching english.
can anyone recommend a spanish course in valencia? i've done a fair bit of research already, and it seems to be between don quijote and aip. anyone have any other suggestions?
also, what are the chances of finding work in October? i am an EU citizen.
Thanks |

I guess neither can many others here! I'm looking into Don Quijote myself, but I've heard that they're very expensive. I think that, as an EU citizen teaching in an EU country, you may want to search EU specific sites. |

I may not be of much help, but I am in VLC now. Only been here 2 weeks. I was just offered a few teaching hours a week for AIP, but realy I'm just picking up where some other teacher left off to finish the course. Its only a few weeks of work, but if I have any insight to what kind of company it is, I'll be happy to share. |

Thanks for your help guys. there really aren't many people on this spain forum, considering it's one of the most popular destinations for teaching english! i guess the lifestyle disuades people from staring at a computer screen for too long. seems it is quite the opposite in korea!
hey matty o, i didnt realise aip had english teachers too. any inside info about them would be great!
also, cdaniels, what EU specific sites are you talking about? any links you have would be greatly appreciated.
thanks again, and if anyone else wants to chime in at any point, please do. this forum needs to wake up a bit!!! |

Don Quijote may be expensive but I used them about 9 years ago after university. I did a 4 month intensive course and went from absolute beginner to nearly fluent in that time.
After that I rarely used it until I moved to Valencia in August 2003 and though I had forgotton most of it but came back quickly so something must have stuck.
Hope that helps.

Hey Goldendelicious. U're right. This forum needs to wake up. From what I can see, Spain does not pay well. However, I want to experience life there, even if it is juist for 6 months. I have been in NYC for over 15 years and I am itching to get out for a bit. I have a BA and a TESOL certification. I also have EU citizenship. Any links would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to teach in Southern Spain because of the climate of course. How is the cost of living there? Are these teach English abroad programs for real or scams? |

hey I dont know if my experience is or isn't typical but I got here and busted my ass by physically distributing resumes (uh, CVs, that is) to about 20 schools.
on top of that I logged many hours on the interweb, digging and distributing resumes.
Well, in the end, the company that hired me was Vaughan Systems. I had contacted their Madrid office first and then eventually got in touch with the local (Valencia) office.
From what I can tell/what I've read, they pay better than most schools. Its seems to be a good company to work for. Not much in the way of providing materials, but decent in other regards.
And, no, they're not hiring anyone without an EU passport.
I know this message board if fairly dead but if any VLC people are reading this and wanna meet up sometime, send me a PM.

I just heard that Dixon Systems, whoever they are, are hiring TEFL teachers at the moment. Here's the message
"Dixon Formacin (www.dixonformacion.com) requires English teachers for in-company teaching in and around Valencia.
Call 902 747 433 "
Haven't a clue what kind of company they are. |
