i've been mulling over whether or not i should sign up with Hess or Kojen, or just get there and search for job...
my question is if i decide to go with Hess or Kojen would i have to wait for the next "training session"? i am planning on arriving in Taiwan sometime in July. if i have interpreted their job ads correctly (they are looking for folks for the summer and spring sessions...) they have scheduled times when new teachers start???
if this is the case, i might have to nix the idea of signing on with these folks...don't feel like waiting any longer to leave.
thanks for your time,
david |

Hi David,
I was faced with the same problem a few weeks ago which is why I chose Kojen. Hess told me they could not place me until September and I needed a job straight away so I went with Kojen. I don't think Kojen have specific times when they recruit, just as and when really. I got the impression that Hess recruit every couple of months or so.
If you want to be guaranteed a paid job as soon as you get to Taiwan you should work for one of the big companies like Hess or Kojen, but if you have a bit of money saved and don't mind being patient you should look for a job when you get here. There's loads of them and you can find better paying jobs than Hess or Kojen without too much trouble. Also, consider the preparation time you need with the big companies. This is what they don't tell you! With Kojen, depending on the school, you have quite a lot of preparation to do which is unpaid. Apparantly it gets easier the more lessons you teach but I'm still waiting for that to happen!
Oh well, good luck with whatever you decide. |
