Hi,

I'll be coming to BA in early July with 2 friends from the States, and I was wondering how easy/difficult it is to find apartments and jobs.

Also, in which areas of town do you recommend living? This will be my first time to BA, so I'd just like a little heads up on life down there.

Thanks!
Kristen

Hey Kristen,

I'll be coming down July 1st. Are you staying for a long time? Feel free to pm me if you'd like.

Hi Kristen,

There's a lot of great posts here on the first page that can answer a lot of your questions.

Good luck with moving to BA. I will be arriving on Sept. 1st.

Hey Kristen,
I just moved here three weeks ago. I put up a topic called first impressions...I think it would be useful. This board was immensely helpful to me in making the move (still in progress, obviously). Check all the old info and ask anything new you want to know. I think you will be able to find an apartment just fine, though you will probably have to do it from here, checking classifieds and the like. Hopefully, you know spanish. If not, it will be tough and you will probably pay much more because I guess you would have to use a service. If you can make or already have an older Argentine friend that knows the ropes that will be immensely helpful as it will help prevent being ripped off if they will go with you. If not, good luck. If you have enough money, I think you can get anything you want. Prices are going up but I would say it is still cheaper than anywhere in the US, especially if you are going to have roomates. I live in Palermo and love it. Feel free to pm me if you think of something or want more specific info, but right now I must put up a quick heads up on this amazing tango performance I saw last night...

I will be taking some courses at the Universidad de Belgrano, a private univeristy in the belgrano zone. Not sure how good they will be... but many study abroad programs from the U.S. use the school.
It cost $6 per hour.. and you can take a 3 or 5 hour course. And not $6 per academic hour, but $6 each class hour. I think the courses are a month long.
The University of Buenos Aires also offers courses, and they seemed reasonably priced also.

I leave tomorrow, and I will be taking a Belgrano course next Monday, so I will try to let you know how it goes.

And for general information about Argentina I find the best Web site is ---

Several Argentines have recommended that I take the classes for extranjeros at the U. of BA because they are supposed to be really good and cheap. I looked in to it and they have several different levels and they are cheap, only most of the classes dont start until August. There is a link to the class info on a thread somewhere here.

Thanks again everyone...I will look into the Universities. Those prices don't sound too bad at all.

Here's my next question... Very Happy

Does anyone know if there's any place to play sand volleyball?

not sure but I think volibol is a big deal down there..
same girl i mentioned earlier was looking for volleyball pictures last time I talked to her.
She said it is pretty big, and I think that the games are televised.. so there has to be something going on.

Thanks for that link Guille. I will need that to in a month or so. Volleyball is a big sport for girls dawn here. Right now its winter so there is only court volleyball but I guess in the spring you will be able to play and if you go to the beach towns, I am guessing there is more of it. This is a big city so I would be surprised to find a lot of sand volleyball (just like its probably kind of rare in New York also) but you might be able to find something.

I finally made it, Im in BsAs! Leaving Madrid's hot summer for the cold (actually I expected cold, cold, but it really isn't!) , was one of the reasons for the feet dragging! It's now down to starting work which I don't really want to do yet because there is so much to see in Argentina. Oh well, let's see how long the euros last! Crying or Very sad
