Every now and then you can find export VB. (Victoria Beer) It's not that great, but it beats Fosters hands down. The advertisements aren't nearly as funny, though.

PS What do self respecting Australians drink? I'm not sure that I know any self respecting Australians. |

Well, hear hear to that, although in Australia its known as Victoria Bitter. It can't be called that in the UK, as its about as much like British bitter as a slightly dark lager!

This self-respecting Australian (see that other Venezuela post) drinks Tasmanian beers like Cascade, or the wonderfully tasty Hahn varieties. Anything naturally brewed, and without too many nasties has to be good, and apparently Cascade recently won some kind of "Best Beer in the World" award. So there!
Hmmm... Sunny Sunday afternoon, and all this talk of beer is making me thirsty!

Never mind, Thelma - you're welcome to a dram from my bottle as we sit in front of a roaring log fire... hang on, make that a smouldering peat fire. It keeps the midges away. |

Why is it that it is alway the BAD beer that gets exported. If Fosters is so bad... can you guys PLEASE start exporting a beer that a decent Australian WOULD drink? I, for one, would certainly appreciate it!

My favourite Australian beer would be Cascade Premium Lager, but it's a bit of a boutique brew and costs far too much. Garden-variety Cascade and Boag's (essentially the same thing) are revolting, except where it's offered on tap at an establishment that knows how to clean the pipes properly.
On tap generally, it's a toss up between Toohey's New and Carlton.
Generally I drink Carlton Cold, even though it's one of those weird 'ice filtered' beers that are actually fast-brewed using chemicals, and come in clear bottles. |

Ahhhhh grahamb... you sure know how to woo a girl......
As for beer, I like to try just about anything from about anywhere in the world. However, I got to admit, nothing beats anything brewed in a small, rural Barvarian monastery! *sigh* My list of favs....
1) anything from Barvaria, which follows the Rheinheitsgebout (purity law)
2) Belgian "geuze" (cant remember the exact spelling, any help here?)
3) Many U.S. microbrews, even Sam Adams (though really no longer a "microbrew"
4) India Pale Ale (I like ale in general, the bitterer the betterer )
5) Guinness
6) Mexican dark beers, like Dos Equis and Victoria
7) other Mexican beers... michelada style (with lime, salt and sometimes chile)
8 ) Sapporo (though ridiculously overpriced!)
9)Ching dao
Id like to mention pulque flavored with mango. OK, its not a beer but rather fermented maguey, and I dont normally like sweet alcohol but for some reason I really like this stuff.
I cant rate English or Aussie brews because I have not had them... YET! I cant get 1) nor 2) on this side of the "puddle"... they might be on top for sentimental value. Maybe I should go visit Europe again and recheck! lol |

In Spain I used to enjoy a chilled Mahou 5 estrellas, one of the best beers in the world! |

Well, I just read that Cascade won an award for being the best premium beer in Australia. Whoops! Looks like I wasn't showing off much at all! I did kind of wonder how an Australian beer could be voted better than something Bavarian...
Anyhoo, my favourite here in Spain is Estrella Damm, partly because I just like saying it! In Mexico I liked Indio in the North, Negra Modelo anywhere, and Sol or Corona for warm evenings after work!
Mmmm, beer! |

I DO make the world a better place. What are YOU doing for it?
I did not instruct unkindly. I simply made a correction.
And I do not take kindly to unsolicited advice. |
