Try Rent-a-Room. They are in Tsim Sha Tsui, near Jordan MTR. Clean, basic, airconditioned. We stayed there for two weeks when we first went to HK in 1998. They have a website.

Wang Fat Hostel at this link is cheap, very clean and very well situated in Causeway Bay.

Ive stayed there before and have no complaints.

You failed to tell how much you are willing to fork out for your pad. HK is one of the most expensive destinations.
And: how long would you be staying?

In TSIMSHATSUI, which is HK's most touristed urban part, "nice" and "affordable" don't go together!

I would suggest the YMCA in Salisbury Rd., which is a very comfy, homey and centrally-located 3-star hotel that caters to both locals and to foreign tourists.
You can rent a room or a bed in a dorm (the latter for HK$ 180).
On HK Island, just across from Tsimshatsui, there is a YWCA in RObinson Rd., it looks like a 4-star hotel and it certainly allows couples to share a room. Interesting location on the flank of the Peak and in neighbourhood of the Botanical and Zoological Gardens and a number of colonial-era institutions. I would think the room rates are around euro50/U.S.$ 70 (my estimate).

You could try out the Youth Hostels Associatioin...they have some great properties...very cheap..and great views..the only draw back is that there may be age restrictions, hence the term youth.

I have stayed in hostels in HK in the past and never heard any bad stories. Some are male or female only. Garden Hostel and others in Mirrador Mansions are cheap for dorm or even single rooms. Check them out on a google.

Good luck.
