| Just where did you get this idea that British and Americans wouldn't say "street trash", and that Canadians and Chinese would? Kinda stereotyping don't you think? |
Not stereotyping at all, 'trash' is american english. |

Am I stereotyping?
Yes.
But nevermind, I'm just trying to help out a friend.
Because I've never heard a Brit says trash they always say rubbish. In fact if you BS them they will often say, "Rubbish!"
So why would they suddenly change to "you piece of street trash" in a moment of anger?
I'm not picking on Canadians but there are some differences and I'm not aware of all of them. I do know that in the states it is rare to say "washroom" though, although it wasn't rare 50 years ago.
You're Canadian do Canadians ever say, "You piece of street trash?"
I'm not sure but it sounds like something I could hear on Trailer Park Boys as a joke.
Which is why I think this person is probably Chinese. |

I haven't, although I may have slipped into the Americanism of calling someone "Trailer trash". I'm more likely to use trash as a verb, as in "trash the apartment if they don't pay me". I suspect you're right; a well-connected Chinese who knows bits and pieces from here and there. More likely still, one who has gotten hold of a western teacher's secondary e-address and has found a way to exploit it. Sorry EG, no easy answer. Glad you're hanging in there. |

I wish you a lot of luck.
When I left EF I was threatened by 5 thugs
I was scared.
It was 10.30 at night and cold and wet and I was being evicted with no notice. (The reason according to them - I was sick !!!!)
Fortuneately I survived the ordeal - but people should speak up about this
organization. |

Hey Gulam, I would not post this thread without having some other experiences and you have just confirmed one more. I am sorry for what happened to you and thank you!
When I joined the EF Huizhou as a DOS in 2003, I received an EF Huizhous ex-disgruntled foreign teachers phone call asking me for help in searching for any possible documentation of his dismissal (he was fired a few weeks before I came). There was absolutely no reference to his dismissal in any EF Huizhous files in my DOS office there. When I asked him to provide me with a contact number so that I would call him back if I found some documentation, he was terrified giving me any contact whatsoever. He said he was threatened and due to the EF Huizhous owners back round he could not provide any contact or whereabouts at all.
By the way that teacher was very well qualified on the contrary of other foreign teachers there and the students liked him, since I checked. Further more that EF Huizhou's disgruntled teacher joined that center with a reference of a very high ranked Academic Manager in the Head Office.

Thanx guys for your educated guesses and a great moral support. It is highly appreciated.

Cujo and Tw, thanx and you are totally right that the word trash is mostly used by Americans.
However, I am worried that English language is getting so international those days that some of us (especially the ones living abroad for longer period of time) might get influenced by their environment. Further more if you want it to be a perfectly annonymous threat on one's life, you might choose your words carefully (to confuse the reader inclusive).
Latefordinner made a good point that the writer might have put "bits and pieces from here and there" together into that email.

Not that I know of. Most of the time we say "you piece of sh*t". |

The news is (which has been expected by me) that the yahoo provider has replied with their stand on my inquiry about the email with the threat on my life, and theyve indicated the source where/who from the email has generated, even though I have not been provided the thugs exact information (was expected). Thats due to the protection of privacy act with regards to email accounts. Further more, I have been directed to the court of law to get a court order in case that I wish a disclosure of the thugs identity. It might be a rather complicated procedure to get that court order in China, although it might also be worth it.
Has anyone got any courtroom experience in China, please? Even though it is not absolutely necessary in my case, it will confirm my current evidence that I have got on those thugs.

Can u find out just who this is?
There are guys in Chinese cities, like guys in any city, who -- for a price -- will, let's say, will cause some grief for a price.
I really think this is a joke, but if not, a visit by the Chinese version of "Goodfellas" might help. |

So was it indeed a Yahoo UK account? Do you at least know of that fact? I know lawyers in China are much cheaper to hire than Western lawyers do and Chinese lawyers deal with any and all types of cases, i.e. you don't necessarily have to look for a criminal lawyer to handle a criminal case, and a differret lawyer to handle a divorce case. They handle all cases. In fact, one of my former students in Qingdao was a law graduate and the first gay man I ever met in China was a lawyer working in Beijing now. |

It is not a joke. I was told by my girlfriend that if you ask someone around, they can hook you up with someone who would do the dirty work for you. MOD EDIT It can cost as little as 50 kuai to as much as a few thousand.
Of course, I am not suggesting that he should do that but maybe a little scare tactic can work? |

Guys, what I am understanding and what you are suggesting here (hire thugs on thugs?) is not only unethical, but also dangerous/risky (what if ) with all due respect to you and to your helping me.
I am not saying that I am the most ethical and honest man in this World, but I have always tried to be.
Yes, apparently it is possible to hire someone in China, so that is why I have posted my thread.
With regards to the legal proceedings and hiring a lawyer to get a court order necessary for the yahoo provider, TW your advice is a really good one. Yes, many Chinese lawyers dont ask much to represent you in the court and they do varieties of cases. I shall consider that one, although I am concerned about how long that might take to get that court order.
However Ive collected some evidence on those thugs and I do know who they are, I dont have enough substantiated evidence for the officials to charge those thugs.
Yes TW, the yahoo account is a UK account.

Court order schmorder, go to the PSB and present as much evidence as possible then lay charges. Get the SOB kicked out of China. That'd be the sweetest revenge! |

Tw, yes that might do it.
