Hi,

I'm thinking of going for the online BA. I have a few questions:

1. Will a 4 year Business degree work for teaching in Asia

2. Will a 3 year business degeee work for teaching in Asia

3. Does anyone know of the University of Management and Technolgy
based out of Virginia

4. Do you know of any great online 4 year degrees that are credible and
well priced?

I want a biz degree because I am also a licenced healthcare professional and I want something that will compliment that as well.

Re online degree programmes, be very careful, as there are a lot of 'diploma mills' out there. They may supply you with a nice piece of paper - but would it be recognised ? I have never heard of the institution that you have referred to - others might have. Have you done a Google search ?

In the US, it would apear that most legitimate BA programmes involves the equivalent of four years of full-time study.With the Commonwealth countries, it's three years. Employers, generally, speaking, would regard a three -year Bachelor's degree from a Commonwealth country as equivalent to a four -year US one.

You also asked about reasonably-priced online degree programmes.Try the University of New England ( www.une.edu.au ). This is a proper,government-recognised university. Although it is a pioneer in Australian distance education, close to a half of its students are 'internals', meaning that they attend lectures on-campus.The fees, I'd imagine, would be below those charged by US institutions. Although UNE's Bachelors' degree programmes would take one, three years to complete as a full-time 'internal' student, it would probably take you about five years as a part-time 'external' - although some of the latter students would try to do it in three years, it is not recommended; especially if you are trying to cope with a full-time job, travelling around, etc, at the same time ! BTW, UNE is now recognised by the pertinent US authority as a legitimate supplier of distance education programmes ( http://www.une.edu.au/uneweb/detc.htm )

I should also point out that that there are a couple of places around the world that do not recognise 'external' or 'distance' degrees, even those that were conferred by recognised institutions.Taiwan is one of them, also one or two countries in the M.E./Gulf region. That appears to be the situation with Masters' degrees - probably the same with Bachelors' degrees.Maybe someone else will elaborate on the recognition of 'distance' BA degrees in Taiwan, etc.

Any ideas on which other countries that do not accept distance learning MA degrees?

I'm in Korea, and want to eventually be able to spend some time teaching in Latin America later on in life.

Also, SE Asia is another area that I'm moving to to teach in for a few years.

If my MA isn't good, I'm going to be bummed.

I suggest a school that has a reputation as being a traditional university, at least then they have a reputation to back them up.

You may want to look into the California State University System. It's a public school sysytem, and has several programs (at least for the MA degree) that you can get through distance learning.
