It took me five days of traveling, three different hotels, five different airports and one VERY harrowing trip down China's wild highway system but I am here in Lishi at last. I met the other ESL teacher working at the school; he is almost finished his contract and I am technically his replacement. He says he hopes that another one will be hired before the start of the september term because there are a lot of students at this school.

Well, I'm finally here! Very Happy

So in which province is Lishi then?
It sounds pretty far away anyway.
Is there a big city nearby that we've probably heard of?

What are ya gonna do until september then btw?
Travel around? Summer school?

Welcome to China Smile

According to www.abroadchina.org/html/cache=article189.htm Lishi is in Shanxi?

Are you at Luliang Teachers College, Simon? Then you may want to read that post.

Yes, Shanxi. I am at Luliang Higher College, may be the same place, I don't know. I will be doing summer school/camp somewhere starting July 1. Until then, orientation.

Actually I think they are outsourcing me for that one.

I have a big can of Deep Woods Off (40% DEET) just for the purpose of deterring bugs. It not only works as a repellant but yesterday I stunned a huge, strangely marked bee with a shot from it long enough to crush it with something heavy without fear of being stung. Useful stuff.

No 5:30 loudspeaker wakeup calls. The honking horns of the large road outside my window acts as my alarm clock around 6:30 instead.

Apparently the guy who took his clippers to the speakers was an astounding twit, according to others I have talked to.

Well I know the other ESL teacher here was not overly fond of him. He'd show up to class stoned reguarly and his students really didn't actually learn any English from him apparently.
