Just been accepted on the PNET scheme, and theyre apparently sending my info to schools. Obviously, the date when I would be arriving is only a month and a half away. Heres my thing- Ive only got three blank pages left on my passport (UK) (and I havent even got the HK work visa or done the run to china to get it activated yet) and I want to get a new one before I arrive in HK so I dont have to get my work visa transferred to the new passport when Im there (which Ive read is a bit of a hassle, is that right?). worried it might delay my application procedure even further and the incompetence of the EMB which Ive read so much about (and am already beginning to experience) might not be able to cope with such aurm complex matter.
What u reckon?
Cheers for info

Can you not get a new passport in the UK or pages inserted to extend it in less than one and half months? I have transfered visas here and it is not that much hastle.

I don't know about the Brits but Americans can also get extra pages at the embassy in HK.

Your passport has to have at least 6 months to go before the expiry date otherwise immigration won't stick your work visa into your passport.

Correct me if I am wrong, your problem isn't that your passport will expire in 6 months or so, your problem seems to be that you have only 3 blank pages left in your passport.

Why not order a new passport (the largest size for maximum number of pages). You can continue using your current passport. Immigration can put the work visa in your current passport if the new one isn't ready at that time, or immigration can put the employment visa into the new passport.

If the visa goes into your current passport, then, when your new passport is issued and to hand, you just need to cut the corners of your current passport and stamp " cancelled " on the information page (you have to do this anyway).

After that you have two options:

1) You can have your work visa transferred to your new passport.

OR

2) You can carry the " cancelled " corners-cut passport (with the work visa stuck inside) together with the newly issued one and the authorities will recognise your employment visa.

thanks for the advice everyone. i got a new passport a couple of weeks ago. i was mainly worried about the EMB not being capable of realising to put my new number on the visa application form. i guess i'll find out ssoon though. maybe it wont be a big problem.
cheers anyway
