About a month ago I askked if anyone had heard of Chicago American school and no one had. I now have some first hand info.

Do not trust a recruiter named Andrew Lin. He has found several people from this website. I flew to Taiwan out of pocket trusting his word and it was many many lies, from work schedule, to salary, to the school's position on extra tutoring, and even vacation time.

When I decided again signing the contract I advised the school owner that this was going on. She seemed unconcerned and response was "well, he does exaggerate." So, if you sign with that school, make sure you know what you are agreeing to, and if you get an email from Andrew Lin, delete it!

Sorry to hear about your experience, but thanks for the update.

So did you manage to find yourself an alternative position?

Judogirl did you get a job with a different school or company?

I feel for you, because I was taken once too! Same way, the owner of the agency told me nothing but lies. To make a long story short, I finally quit because every pay day, I owed the agency money. The agency still owes me October and half of November of 2003 salary. I have a lawyer who doesn't really care, because he is not making any money.

I explained all this because if the school doesn't care if Andrew Lin is lying then they must like morals! Becareful!

P.S. why judogirl? I earned a black belt, sho-Dan in Japan.

Yea lessons are sometimes expensive! But at least you were not taken as much as I was! I am willing to bet that we are not the only ones who first find a job with a corrupt company and then find a sincere and honest company. I am going on my third year with my present employer.

Good luck to you! I am glad to know that everything turned out for the good.

There is no such thing as a good recruiter on Taiwan!

1700CND right? That's a pricey airplane.

Consider that money well spent, though -- even if you don't make back that cash. You'll get a much better job conditions-wise, at least, now that you're here. You would have had to spend that cash to get here for most of the honest jobs anyway.

Yes, and all foreign teachers are unreliable backpackers.

No matter what color you use and what size font you choose, both of these statements are ridiculous generalizations, based upon the worst examples.
