Based on my experiences teaching in Seoul, Mexico City, and rural Honduras, I would much rather have a peer ESL instructor (ex-pat) refer me to a school or business, than a recruiter or just a blind ad. Therefore, I am asking if any ESL instructors on this job forum, living and working in Chile, can refer me to his/her school or business for an ESL position.

In all brevity, I have 5 + years experience teaching ESL to primary school pupils through university students, as well as business executives in Tanzania, Korea, Mexico, South Africa, and Honduras. In addition to classroom teaching, I have also conducted private 1:1 ESL instruction, as well as scripted and acted on two weekly educational, television shows in Seoul, Korea, for EBS (Educational Broadcasting Systems.) The television shows, "Real Talk" and "Pros and Cons", both served to teach conversational English to Korean audiences. I co-authored the Seoul National University English Board exams: the Listening Comprehension Section, while contributing to the content of a variety of ESL text books and workbooks on three continents.

there is lots of work to find over here. That is, once you are actually over here. I can refer you to some institutes but it all depends on what you want to do, how much you want to work, and when you will actually be here.

Sorry Kelly, but I think you would be better off arriving here and then finding work. You don't want someone else doing the leg work for you and then having the potential of being disatisfied with the position offered to you.

Thank you, both, for responding to my post. I went to Korea (over 5 years ago) originally on a tourist visa--with a few job interviews previously lined-up/arranged, and it took me so long to select a decent "hogwan"/school (there were so many to choose from!)--I ran out of money staying in hostels/eating out in Seoul and ending up "crashing" with a peer ESL teacher (which I met through Dave's ESL Cafe) and her Korean husband for 3 weeks! (No mistake, Cynthia and Jong-Hee Park were lovely, generous and very hospitable--I just hated imposing on them!)

My fear is to go blindly to Chile (where I know no one) and spend all my money in Santiago--looking for a position. That is why I am specifically asking ESL teachers, assuming they are content with their present employment--if they know their schools are hiring, or plan to hire for the fall season. If the teachers are happy with their schools--I trust I will be happy. Thank you for all your input.
