I am celebrating by going back to Canada next week for the summer.
What will you be BBQing Jim?
Anyone know if the Cdn Embassy plans anything on Canada Day? Not that I am going to Tokyo, just curious.
Anyone have any memories of Canada Day overseas? My favorite was back in 1996 in Seoul. The embassy there threw a huge party for Canadians at a big fancy hotel. Tickets included all-you-can-eat Alberta beef and all the Molson and Labatts you can drink. A memorable event. |

I am celebrating Canada day in a subdued, yet poignant way... I am packing boxes of my stuff to mail back to Canada. No BBQ here. Maybe a quick cup ramen from the combini...3 weeks left until I fly away. Can I mail any of you Canucks anything when I get back. Perhaps a bit of cheese ?  (No, seriously, if there is anything that anyone needs from the motherland, PM me.) |

How bout I tell you what I WON'T be BBQing....
I will NOT be BBQing: soba, shitake mushrooms, vegetables, chicken cartilage, shrimp
(no offense intended to the Japanese or Ozzies)
Otherwise, some steaks, burgers, dogs.... The same stuff I used to grill back home on a weekly basis...

There's a Canada Day party in Osaka (I think) but it's on July 5th... ) Go figure).

Nice! I can't say much about the overseas part. Last year's Canada Day overseas knda sucked for me. However my favorite Canada Day was spent listening to outdoor concerts downtown Edmonton, followed by watching the waterfall from the High Level bridge and then the fireworks. |

Yeah. Like Gordon, I once celebrated Canada Day in Seoul. Except for me it was in 2000. The embassy put on a huge outdoor BBQ with all the fixins...cdn beer, steak and salmon. We also had impromptu football and hockey games. I must say however that I experienced a little bit of reverse culture shock. There was so much machismo and bravado that it got me off guard. Especially since it was coming from both the men and the women.

I was able to start my Canada Day celebrations with the school here. Before coming I got a ton of Canadian pins and everyone at the school got one.
Going to light my sparklers tonight.

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!
I'm afraid I'm not doing anything exciting to celebrate, but I took my students on a pretend airplane ride to Canada where we ate pancakes with "maple" syrup, made Canadian flags and took a train ride through the wilderness. They're 3 years old so I think I did it more for me then them.  It's my first Canada Day away from home so even the smallest bits of Canadiana are comforting. |

Hey, happy Canada Day to my neighbors up north. Tomorrow I'll be celebrating the 4th of July, with the usual BBQ and brightly colored explosions...
I am guessing that the 4th is the American equivalent of Canada Day?
Anyways, good wishes from America, your well-meaning but bellicose neighbor to the south.
