PaulH, do you know something about this? Did Dave get threatened by Tomanaga? It would be a shame if people went to her school, ignorant of its history, when we have the opportunity to help them make an informed decision.

Sorry folks, there is no more credibility left on Dave's. I think Dave himself should give an explanation because he is the only one who can remove a Sticky.

How many other schools have had warnings about them pulled because they didn't like what people had to say about them?

How long will this thread last?

Gordon,
Long enough for me to say it's BS! The Wizard of Oz has been exposed.

Dave has also pulled posts in the Job information journal referring to this school in the past.
I guess he is either spineless, or mercenary. One or the other.

Can anyone suggest other good ESL sites to visit ? This one seems to have sided with the type of people we all should be avoiding.

For what it's worth, I just noticed the sticky I had about "dating Japanese women" or whatever was deleted too.

The sheer level of censorship/sanitization on this site is one thing. But being in the pocket of undesirables is something entirely different. Maybe I should stop posting here too...

Paul, do you know what happened?

Maybe Paul has to wait for permission from Dave before he can write anything, and Dave has to get permission from Tomanaga before telling Paul what he can write!

So much for freedom of speech. Perhaps we should all go to China to enjoy that.

Like on GP, the Administration has to keep paying customers happy and minimise bad publicity. Visitors who dont financially contribute to the upkeep of the forum dont get their voices heard.

Dave is the final arbiter in this matter and the decision on what stays on here rests with him.

PS I would avoid criticising Dave by name on this or other forums and you may find the consequences not to your liking. Best idea is to bite your tongue.

Care to be a little more specific about the 'consequences'? IMHO, it is fair to be clear to people on a message board exactly what the rules and regulations are, plus what punishment they may expect for breaking them.

It is all getting to sound a little Orwellian to me. If Mr. Sperling has trouble with what people write about him or his customers, it may behoove him to have the common courtesy to reply in person.

Dave himself does not post on the forums, that is what he has Moderators for. Also from what I can gather he is not one who feels he has to justify his actions to "guests" on his forum. He has his own reasons and if people don't like it, tough.

He has the following posted on the general forum

While the administrators and moderators of this forum will attempt to remove or edit any generally objectionable material as quickly as possible, it is impossible to review every message. Therefore you acknowledge that all posts made to these forums express the views and opinions of the author and not the administrators, moderators or webmaster (except for posts by these people) and hence will not be held liable.

You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-orientated or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed). The IP address of all posts is recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions. You agree that the webmaster, administrator and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit. As a user you agree to any information you have entered above being stored in a database. While this information will not be disclosed to any third party without your consent the webmaster, administrator and moderators cannot be held responsible for any hacking attempt that may lead to the data being compromised.

PS I have a pretty thick skin and have a lot of people take potshots at me on occasion. I have not reported people for slinging mud at me but I can not guarantee what other Moderators will do (things are a little bit better or late though). No doubt Dave will be watching this thread and acting according to his own interests.

Ok, let's look at it in a different light.

Paul, if it's all about the dead presidents, then what if I paid Dave to put up a classified ad? Or a banner ad? Let's say, for argument sake that I paid more than the school that wanted a sticky about them removed, and I requested that the information about said school stay posted. Would the sticky stay? Would I get a say in the matter, being a "paying customer?"

You'd have to ask Dave about that, but my guess is he would want to see the color of your money first. Not just talk, but action. Are you willing to put your money where your mouth is to ensure the sticky stays up there, on a monthly continuous basis?

Paul, why don't you ask Dave how much money he would like to keep the board censor-free of Lingo school? Is $75/ad that important to him? I guess it is more important than having 50 odd posters upset.
On the other hand, we could put up a new thread warning of Lingo EVERY time a thread is removed. I understand that Dave does not like to be criticized, I don't like it either, but our message must be getting through to him surely.

I would also like to add that Dave needs posters on his forum. If we didn't post, guests wouldn't come to read and advertisers wouldn't put up job ads. So in essence, both groups need to be happy for this forum to be effective and be a money generator for Dave. I think we understand it is a business.
