I just joined the ESL Cafe and posted a question concerning Via Lingua Granada vs. EBC Madrid on the Spain forum. I am thinking about enrolling in a TEFL course in Spain sometime in the fall, as I will be in Europe visiting a friend. I would really like to work in Argentina though, but their Southern Hemisphere calendar has me a bit confused. I know the academic year runs from March-December and supposedly the best time to look for jobs is around February. However, I would really like to go earlier and was wondering if it is feasible to get a job working at a summer camp (if they are common) or giving private lessons (if that is common during the summertime as well). Also I would prefer to live in a smaller city like Cordoba or Mendoza, as a big city like Buenos Aires kind of intimidates me, so I don't know if this affects anything or not. Okay if anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it Very Happy

If its of any worth, this is what friends of mine are doing. They are doing the EBC August course in Buenos Aires, firstly because as students they are living on savings and Buenos Aires is cheap so the savings go a longer way. Then after the course they will use EBCs job placement program and work in Madrid from Sept to Dec. Then they plan to be back in Buenos Aires for the Feb/March hiring season. I guess in that way, theyre always working. Also with bargain fares popping up every minute of the day, I think its a great plan. As for me I think Buenso Aires is great and Ill do the reverse (maybe??) , hit Madrid for January , they say thats a good time for finding work over there. One of the reasons I chose EBC was because I knew I wanted to work in at least 2 Spanish cities, Buenos Aires for the South American Spanish flavor and Spain for the European bit! After Madrid and Buenos Aires, maybe Chile?

hey,

jp - i'm wondering about those 'bargain fares' you refer to in your message - any tips or particular websites you use to find cheap flights?

Thanks,
Sarah

air madrid flies from bsas (you bring your own food on this one!), aerolineas argentina and even iberia has good fares depending on when you fly out of bsas to madrid. Madrid is extremely busy in October, hiring wise. The kids go back to school around the second week of Sept, so that means its back to work, vacations over and the fares get cheaper. Im thinking of going to Madrid in January, I know its a good time to find work there, its gonna be cold but thats a long way to go and im having a great time in BsAs. Ill ask my friends for specific websites for bargain fares. good luck.
