I'm re-posting my inquiry from LP Thorn Tree that didn't recieve much response. Thanks. -

I'm going to be teaching in Gamagori - outside of Nagoya - for at least a year. Aside from tourism sites, I haven't able to find much information. Anyone have tips on eateries/restaurants/ bars that are interesting/reasonably priced? It looks like a tourist town, so any advice on where the locals shop would be greatly appreciated.
D.

Boring place actually. It's not much better than a one horse town.

The "tourist" stuff your talking about is Laguna which is actually there to boost flagging speed boat gambling.

If you're an extremely active person, you're gonna go nuts living there. If you are a small town sort of person who spends most of your time at home, well you'll be just peachy anywhere.

If I could compare Gamagori to a place in the states... it'd have to be something like Talahassee, Florida... minus the University atmosphere.

It is a pretty small city, but it has the basics- shopping centre, some pubs, a McDonalds, the necessities of life. If you long for the big city, you can get to Nagoya in less than an hour by train. I would recommend having a car, though. Living in the country means less public transportation.

What kind of work will you be doing there?
