My Bellybutton
Is full of blue fluffiness
Like a spring full moon

That's beautiful, man
I said, wiping a warm tear
From my brimming eye

Interlang, spawn of ET is now recruiting for 15 teachers and a DOS. I looked at their profile and this is what they wrote:

''We have a good reputation as a school that looks after its teachers''

What a crock of s hit.

They look after their teachers as opposed to ET, who don't care about theirs. Not long ago, a new teacher at ET was literally dumped in an Interlang flat, not given any instructions about how to get to school or lessons to teach, and her two flatmates had to help with everything and make phone calls to the school, although it wasn't their responsibility.

That was some time ago. ET now has a lojman. That particular teacher was EXTREMELY needy and was not able to do anything on her own. She finally went home to her mother. Our head teachers try hard to get new teachers situated.

What disturbs me about some of the posts about ET is that there is no separation between the PEOPLE there and the organization. I am fully aware of its not so endearing quirks as a Turkish-run company. However, I AM fully aware of how hard the head teachers work to do their part to help the teachers in many many ways. Those posters who used to work at ET in the past don't necessarily know it now. It is still not a perfect place, but it is a lot better than some others.

I also get tired of the gripes. As another poster said somewhere here, if you think it is not so great, then do something to help make it better. That is one of the marks of a professional.

If you don't like working at language schools, go somewhere else. If you don't like TEFL, get out and do something else. Get a freakin' life.

I don`t remember anyone saying that ET was great. Even the few that ET have bought and will sell someday don`t say it is great. They do however sometime say that it is no worse than others or that great one-liner it is getting better.

Another similar story you have probably heard is the ET newbie that got taken to the flat late at night and when the newbie arived there were no sheets, blankets, quilts etc. so they had to barge into one of the other bedrooms where another teacher was asleep and wake them up and strip on of the sheets that he was using instead of a blanket and poor old newbie had to use that for a blanket. I can`t imagine what it was like next morning in that flat.

So there are 2 excuses for the teacher getting dumped. Firstly the teacher was needy presumably because of being dumped and secondly it was a while ago and ET has a lojman now. I suppose that makes it alright then.

Seperate the people from the organisation-we are only following orders then.

Don`t you dare blame Turkey or Turks for the state of ET. There are plenty of well run Turkish organisations.

I have lost count of how many times we have tried to improve ET but it just wants to aim at the bottom of the market and operate as cheaply as possible. Monthly salaries, things done legally and so on and so on. ET will never improve whilst the foundations are so shaky.

Just a few more months and the school year will start again. Can ET really bear another year of the same cheap incompetence?

An earlier poster says that ET is better than others. Which others? Prove it and name them. I would be happy to name some better language schools.

I hadn't heard the story, but I'm not surprised, 31.
I'm not here to bicker about any schools, I work for one, after all, but people need to know.
Why don't we try to make our work places better environments? Maybe we are "blessed" with non-creative management...or maybe we don't have the necessary resources...or simply maybe because we have tried, met indolence or, worse, opposition, and eventually decided it wasn't worth it. However, we continue working for a place or the other, doing our TEFL job more or less passionately, and why? I personally do it for the students - I forget about my frustrations when I'm in the classroom.
