In many countries being a prostitute is not illegal, pimping and solicitation on the street for customers is. There is nothing illegal about hiring a bunch of hookers for a c-o-c-ktail party.
It only looks bad becuase its a large Japanese company with a high profile in a foreign country and the media got hold of the story in an anti-Japan protest, of which there are a lot these days. I can think of worse things that have happened in Australia, like the government locking up four year old children in prison for overstaying their visas or having crooks like Bjelke Petersen treating Queensland like a private fiefdom. |

Once againthrough your conversation you voice you opinion that Japan can do no wrong.

It looks abad as it is any large international company. The behaviour is not acceptable.
There is worse things that have happened here but in this country most people do not tolerate it, as you see that is why it gained media atention.
As for locking up children in prison you are eintitled to an opinion and that is it. Your not Australian, don't confuse your nationality!! So keep your nose in New Zealand policy.
We have created the immigration rules for a reason, we wish to better the Australian population. We can choose whoever we want to live here and it is noone elses business. We are not going to have people dictate to us who we take in.
Atleast we actually give people a chance to go through the legal process in some countries your are immediately deported or in extreme cases shot at once you cross the border.
It may surprise you to know that the majority of people believe that illegal immigrants should be immediately sent home and most support the detention situation. Is it a tiny vocal minority that have nothing to lose that want people released. Students , ESL teachers, hippies and those types.
Joe actually did a lot of good for Queensland and the country. Much policy he implemented caused other states to implemet similar policy so that they could stay competitive with QLD. Ofcourse he spent a lot of money.

Hey Malcolm,
I would send you some of the stuff but if I was caught by the police I would be going to prison for a very long time. They have strict anti-drug policies in Japan.
I doubt that would happen in Australia?
Seems the Japanese in fact, do not consider everything to be OK, as you claim. |

Do a quick search and you will find there is a whole thread dedicated to getting drug, using drugs or whatever else some teachers do after hours.
In most countries you get locked up for drugs except oh that trip to Mexico where a really really big bag was ten dollars US |

yes I'm quite aware of the thread, in which an overwhelming majority strongly urged people NOT to use drugs in Japan since the penalties are quite harsh and swift.
About Mexico, yeah, you could probably get whatever you wanted to, whenever you wanted to.
Not to mention that prostitution there is far worse than in Japan.
Not to mention more murders, muggings, rapes, etc.
But you don't care about that, you only care about making Japan seem as bad as possible.
I have to ask, were you dumped by a J-girl?  Or is there another reason you hate Japan so much? |

Both you and Paul have me completely wrong, I don't hate the Japanese culture. I just think it has been distorted and certain members of this board further distort it.They are so wraped up in a culture that treats them as a semi-god that they can not see the crap that goes on.
I did business with Japanese men for many years and ofcourse found their customs very different to mine. What really sticks with me is if you speak to a middle aged Japanese man he will tell you that his society runs on honor and the Japanese man is a brave warrior, whether on a battlefield or in the boardroom.
From my experience this is as far from correct as could possible be. From my business experience their is no honor and when being caught doing something wrong they turn to a coward.
Think about you own experience and other board members, how many employers in Japan have attempted to rip you off?
The one turning point for me one day happend when I was driving an older Japanese lady round the city. We spotted out of the window the ESL guy- J Girl crowd. I asked her how these girls parents would feel, not just because of the Aussie boyfriends but when a Japanese girl arrives to Nth Qld there behaviour becomes very un-Japanese. The older lady said that these girls would be bringing much shame on their families and that if her daughter did this she would likely be rejected by her friends and go into deep depression.
Basically she said it was a terrible situation and made it seem that Australians were not a worthy husband. I could not help but think after all Japan attempted to do to Australian shouldn't it be our parents that are ashamed to have them come to the house.
It always shocks me how we as Australians are accused of all sorts of nonsence yet it seems to me that we must be one of the most accepting countries.
No Japanese girl dumped me. |
