|

Firstly, to start down a familiar track ... I'm a qualified, experienced ESL teacher with 5 years of experience teaching at a high school. For the past few years, I've been thinking of working overseas and now it's time to do it ...
I've been job-hunting via net in Japan with minimal success as employers (mostly language school) seem reluctant to hire people from overseas.
The options I'm considering are:
a) Go to Japan at end of year and try to find a job while there (expensive option)
or
c) Apply to a high school in Bangkok, Thailand that sounds quite keen and
work there for a year and then go to Japan.
My first choice of a place to work in is Japan, but Thailand also appeals. I have lived overseas in Asia (Japan and Malaysia) before. I'm not too sure whether to take the plunge with the job in Bangkok, - having read many posts about the shady operators etc. and pro's and cons of working in Thailand ...
Could someone also please clarify for me the situation for qualified teachers in Thailand. I have read comments saying there is a move for schools (public particularly ... ?) to hire 'proper' ie. qualified teachers; yet schools that advertise internationally are indicating that they would have trouble hiring locally and therefore would not be good places to work at ?
Any thoughts, advice or clarification would be very, very welcome ... |

Re Japan: The big employers (Aeon, ECC, Geos, Berlitz, Nova) all hire from overseas and will sponser you for a Work Visa. Once you ahve touched down and cleared immigration the visa is yours and you may work for whoever you like. |
