moonraven,

Glad to see you're enjoying your holiday in the mid-east. Perhaps you should pull yourself away from the PC for a few minutes and see a bit of the desert.

I know this is uncalled for but I found it funny that you brag how much you enjoy your six months off a year but seem to post on this board daily. Daveaholic?

I would post less if envious folks on this forum didn't spend so much of their time posting ABOUT me.

And if folks also didn't find it compelling to butt into my business by recommending how I spend my time--free or otherwise.

As it happens, I do not tend to take long desert walks while I am working. My time in the Middle East is not a vacation--I am working as a consultant to 2 universities here--AND teaching 2 classes while doing so.

Consultant to TWO universities.
Please don`t downplay your achievements. As Director of a language school surely you were a recruiter as well a many other things. I will add film critic to my list though.

There is not much you haven`t done.

No, you're wrong again. There are millions and billions of things that I haven't done. However, I do keep busy--and I don't believe in letting a minute pass without learning something.

There is no reason why anyone should downplay his/her achievements. If you achieve something, it is implicit in that act that you believed it was worth doing.

I see no reason for you to be carrying around a list of what I have done when what you should be doing is creating your OWN list.

That is the last time I will give you that advice. From here on out I will simply ignore you.

You see, Thorn Yeti? Brown-nosing gets you nowhere - only YOU can sort out the pitiful mess you are in.

ET, phone home.

I think you are the troll in this particular situation, sticking your nose in and annoying people. You have told us all that you have a pathetic and completely useless life. Do something about it.

but I think the legal limit is 8.25 posts per day before the cops drag you off to jail for posting under the influence of Dave-ahol.

Sweetsee, i'm not trying to tell you what to do and never did. It was clearly a joke.

But you kind of prove my point about people being too sensitive in this business about what other people say and think.

My friends and family support what i do. The only people who have slagged off my job are the ones who are unhappy in their own jobs. I have many friends who love their accountancy or consultancy jobs. I know people who hate their accountancy or consultancy jobs. The latter are the ones who have told me my job was a waste of time, probably to try to make themselves feel better and superior in their own work that they hate. And, as i said, i really don't care what these people think of me. I don't care what any stranger thinks of me as long as i have my friends and family. They are the ones i listen to, not people i don't know (and in whom i have no interest in) or anonymous internet users. It's not a case of being rude, it's simply a case of choosing who to listen to. That's not to say that i don't take on board what others say (that would be ridiculous and would defeat the purpose of using a forum such as this one), just that when it comes to the the important things in life, such as jobs/career, i know who i'd choose to listen to. As i said before, *beep* the doubters and enjoy life. It's too short to do otherwise. And we only get one (according to my western-centric racist view of the world).

Cheers,

Matt

Some of us DO get more.

And we even take advantage of those additional lifetimes.

Even if we don't give a rat's butt about what other folks think.

Or maybe because of that.

Matt, your view is neither Western-centric nor racist. The vast majority of Chinese people believe we have one life to live, too.

my point exactly. as a result I decided to get a decent qualification which allows more doors to open and even more opportunities to negotiate a fair deal. I got a lucky break in Jeddah and very thankful for it. It allowed me to enter the middle east and get experience there which helped me a lot in finding work elsewhere in the region; such as here in syria. I was neither ashamed nor embarrassed about my lack of qualifications at that time. In fact, I was pleased that the institution there had the courage to take me on based only on the experience and skills I had at the time. The fact that the institution gave me a fair appraisal of my work performance (a reference) there during that period was testament to the effort I had put into doing the work. I have no regrets.
