So I'm wondering if there are any in this forum who have done the CELTA after already spending years in the classroom.

Under an odd set of circumstances, I completed half the CELTA at a Uni, (this Uni split it into two halves), but was unable to complete the second half for personal reasons. (And NO, it wasn't because I had to work two jobs to put food on the table! Very Happy )

My experience.... The instructors had no experience teaching overseas, and their teaching methodology would have never worked in a real classroom setting. They couldn't recognize that there is a big difference between ESL and EFL.

I knew it was just going to be a case of jumping through hoops to get that "piece of paper", but I felt that, in general, that particular course was wasting my time. (I should mention at this point I had spent 6 years teaching in Taiwan and a year teaching EFL in Canada.)

I'm still in the market for a good CELTA course though, I may go complete that one just because I have credit for half of it, or if anyone here has taken a good one in Istanbul and can recommend it....

Are you referring to a CELTA as any initial teacher training qualification or to the CELTA CELTA?

I of course was taking the mick when I referred to the ET CELTA.

The course was a Canada TESL/TEFL CELTA, it's quite confusing because there was a lot of merging and combining of institutions and certificates going on at the time. These days I'm wondering if I should look into the DELTA instead.

I got that you were "taking the mick" in regards to the ET CELTA. (Although admittedly, I'm not 100% sure I know what "taking the mick" is!)

The CELTA we all refer to is only offered by Cambridge and is accredited by them, DELTA being its big brother as it were.

Whatever you did was offered by that uni and the credit won`t count towards a CELTA or a DELTA.

If you're thinking of taking the CELTA in Istanbul, I can recommend the course offered by ITI - they're professional and accredited by Cambridge. The course is currently run in collaboration with EF. I completed the DELTA with them and was very satisfied.
