I put a job wanted ad up,
24 y/o white male American native speaker, Bachelors Degree, etc etc.
I got about 6 different replies and I replied to one I really liked with my short resume and a photo. It's been about 4 days now...
Is this typical, the wait I mean? Or does it usually mean that they looked and didn't like?
Thanks in advance

Unfortunately for many foreign teachers Chinese staff tend to leave things to the last minute, with no thought being given to pre-planning. It is entirely possible that the school has hired you in their own minds, but they may fail to actually inform you of this until soon before you need to start class. You will no doubt have secured a job at another school by that time, having assumed that no news meant that you were unsuccessful.
My suggestion is to keep searching for a position until you find something of interest, and receive some form of acceptance from the school. Bear in mind that there is no absolute guarantee of the placement until you actually arrive and sign a contract at the school. |

Good points, Middy. Just one thing to expand upon...

True enough. Wherever you end up, it doesn't hurt to be positive, patient and charming when dealing with the overworked staff at the desk. In a bad situation, this can mean the difference between a nightmare and a liveable difficulty |

Good advice all, and thanks.
Normally I'm really pretty patient, but I just found it odd that I put up an ad, and almost within a day I get a handful of offers, then I reply to one ...... -cricket cirps- .............. you know?
But good to know that its not unseen

I didn't get from this post the you've actually received an "offer". There's a good possibility that a recruiter that's just "fishing" responded to your ad. |

Yeah, watch out for the recruiters.
The way things work where I am is that they (the school) will hold out till the last minute and then tell you that you have a class the next morning, "can you be here?"

errr... don't bet on that, those that have acutally experienced Japan will tell you different.
My advice is keep working at it till you get a firm offer that you like. I (like most others) had literally hundreds of responses before a suitable job was weeded out.
