Hey, I have a question about guitars in Japan. I'm going to Japan in September and was wondering if I should bring my guitar with me or just buy one there. I wouldn't be buying anything special...just an acoustic that stays in tune would be nice. Are hte guitars in Japan reasonably priced and are the acoustic guitars of reasonable quality? What I mean by "reasonable quality" is: are they, in general, not warped? I lived in Taiwan before and I know that a lot of the acoustic guitars there were always going out of tune as many of them were warped.
Oh, I'm in Canada now.

thanks so much.

Guitars are not that expensive in Japan. Unless you are really attached to your guitar in Canada, buy one in Japan.

Um, depends what you're after. I didn't bring mine from Canada and I regret it... It's a beautiful $600 guitar that was made in Europe... When I came here I bought an "El Cheapo" for 10,000 yen. I don't recommend it. A half-decent Yamaha will run you at least 20,000 yen though, and if you want anything fancy or really decent, count on dropping at least 40,000 or more.

I don't know if you're coming to the Tokyo area or not, but there's a place here called OCHANOMIZU which has many musical instrument stores.

I bought a Yamaha steel string acoustic here which is absolutely fantastic !

And I paid only about $150 Canadian for it. Although it was used, it's in great condition.

9000 yen for a japanese tele, that's wicked. That what I want for my next axe, sick of trying to tune my floyd rose every time I change strings.
