I just found out that I will have a month of nothing to do until my university starts. I want to travel but I do not have much money. I live in southern California so Mexico is the closest country.

I have 4 years TESL experience in Taiwan. I am a certified teacher here in the states. I am 31 years old and single.

Does anyone know where I could land a short term teaching gig some where in Mexico? Preferably near the coast.

I do not know how the bureaucracy works in Mexico but I would assume that getting a working visa for 4 weeks of work would be damn near impossible. Therefore, I am willing to work under the table or substitute for someone going on vacation.

Are there any message boards for ESL teachers in Mexico where people post job openings?

Thanks

I think you might find some piecemeal work, say teaching locals a little English so they can make sales on the beach or in a restaurant - but is that what you really want? You'd be paid very little. After lumping in your travel expenses you'd still be losing a lot of money.

If you want to travel but don't have money, why not head up to the mountains? You'd be a lot more likely to make a profit in your home state than while travelling in another country.

You might slide down to Tijuana and see if you can pick up a summer children's course at one of the language schools....

I also worked for Harmon Hall--4 years (1 as teacher, 3 as director/DOS). I can tell you that they are not all the same in their policies of hiring and training. It doesn't hurt to check it out.
