Would private English institutes look at 2 months of volunteer ESL experience favorably? I'm suggesting this becuase I believe any classroom experience would benefit me .[/b] |

I'm not sure it would help if it's the only experience you are depending upon. The English language institutes in LA are mostly owned and run by the same organizations that give TEFL training -- do you see the circle here? I'm not saying that it will be impossible for you to find work, just difficult. Good luck! |

I don't know evrybody is Latin America, but for me, YES! Many teachers looking for work here are competely new to the classroom, and anything that shows that you have a better idea what you're doing would be positive. Two months is far better than no months, which is what a lot of people have.
And if you did it as a volunteer, that shows that you knew the value of experience, rather than just needing the money.
I would say, do it.

Any experience is good experience.
you wouln't believe how many applicants we get from youngsters fresh from a BA in International Studies with no experience or training and they think a year teaching at our university would be a great experience for them. (Which is true, but not such a great experience for our students!) |
