Hi, I am going to be teaching English in Buenos Aires for a year and am planning on arriving on Sep. 1. I don't know anyone else going, but I am going with a "volunteer" program that sets me up with my job and a family to live with, and instead of getting paid from the school I just get a monthly stipend from the program. I would love to meet any others who will be down there at that time.
If anyone still needs to buy their ticket I may have an option you'll like. I work for STA Travel and I actually bought my own ticket from here. We have a great contract with Lacsa/TACA that allows you to make unlimited stopovers on the way to your destination. So, for example, fly Los Angeles to Buenos Aires and stop for a week in San Jose, Costa Rica then fly to Quito, Ecuador for two weeks and then Lima, Peru for a week and continue on to BA (and there are several other choices for stops). That ticket from LAX in Sep/Oct costs about $900 and it is valid for an entire year. The date change fee is only $25 so it allows you to be pretty flexible. You can also fly on this type of ticket from ORD, MIA, and SFO, although they will cost more. If you may be interested let me know.
I am going to do all of my stopovers on my way home next year. |

Hi
On the subject of airline tickets, if anyones coming from Europe there are great deals with air Madrid. You have to book online at www.airmadrid.com. They fly from Madrid (yes I know that seems obvious!!) but you do have to take your own food or pay the expensive prices they offer on the plane.
Bye for now

Also,
Check www.brol.com
When I was coming, I found a one-way ticket from Raleigh-Durham to BA for $375 (taxes and charges added about $100 more, though). I had layovers in Miami and Lima but the whole trip took about 16 hours...not bad from a small airport like RDU. |

Hi Michelle,
This sounds like a great deal! I'm planning on coming to BA in the middle of October with some stop-overs on my return back home next spring so this would be great for me. Is that $900 a return flight? Can you tell me how much a ticket from MIA to BA would be?
I sent you a PM but I thought I might as well post my question too! |

I think you should be able to get from MIA to BA for $500 US or less, and those huge taxes that airlines tack on that always makes me underestimate the price. Round trip should be less than $1000 US, depending on time of year and how far in advance... |

If you can swing a student fare (i.e. have an e-mail address with .edu, have an ISIC card/expired university ID, or can just con your way into it) try www.studentuniverse.com or www.statravel.com. I've seen really good fares for all over Latin America through both of these sites. |
