Hey im just wondering

anyone seen any thai/chinese food supplies stores?? seems unlikely that I will be able to get much in the way of spices here any ideas?

chinatown in belgrano. It's one street called Arribenos right next to barrancas de belgrano bus stop and belgrano R (? ) train station. There are a couple of chinese supermarkets there and a few decent chinese restaurants. Well, as good as you'll find in Argentina that is. Jumbo in palermo also has a few bits and pieces in the aisle at the far right top of the store.

Sometimes Coto has a version of "curry" and the little ladies that sit on corners and sell vegetables usually sell chili peppers. If you go to Corrientes and Gallo (approx) you could find some fresh spices/herbs in the vegetable stores that you can mix yourself. The area has a small Peruvian population. There is also an Asian market in that area where you can get an economy sized bottle of soya sauce for about $7 pesos.

Good luck and if anyone finds ingredients for Masala Chai tea, tell me pullleeze and I will buy you a beer in exchange for that info!!

I should add that I found enough ingredients in that area to make a good Thai pineapple fried rice.

yeah actually I am - English in the kitchen - this one particular student of mine is into cooking and needs to learn english words for utensils and ingrediants etc so Im taking the class in the kitchen - as I said in my previous posts using realia really helps students learn - they can visual things and it makes it so much easier to remember the words.

Non-food items like woks, chop sticks, Chinese tea cups and rice steamers are also available here.

We found that Casa China has the best selection but since products are subject to availability, checking out the other supermarkets is always worthwhile.

You can also find Tofu at Jumbo as well as a small variety of Asian foodstuffs. "

Can someone give me directions to a big supermarket like Jumbo, Norte, Carrefour, etc? I live in Barrio Norte. I just got here and would really like to find one of these. Thanks!
