Wednesday 10th August 2005, from 09:30 to 18:00 the other residents and I will have our elec., water supplies cut, because the wise people in the management office have people coming in to do routine check-ups! This is a regular occurrence.
I've written to SCMP.
Is there anything I can do to stop the madness? |

If you think that routine safety checks are "madness" then I suggest you go where your location says you are, viz., the PRC (i.e., the Mainland).
Though it may surprise you to learn this, when a large number of people live on top of one another in a sub-tropical climate (as is quite clearly the case in HK), facilities can quickly degenerate. And, as the old adage goes, a stitch in time saves nine.
My advice would be to secure gainful employment. That way such health and safety checks will not impinge on your precious time.
By the way, whilst on the subject of employment, how is your plan to have interview expenses reimbursed going? |

Usually, the checks take place after the stated start time, and finish before the stated end time.
Just wake up a little earlier to shower.
Fill your kettle, have a bucket of water in the bathroom.
And as pointed out, be grateful.
Occasionally, you will see on the news, an old building, which didnt' have checks lose all power for days due to transformer problems etc.
BTW be grateful your management company does its job. That is where you management fees go. |

Anyway......
The annual checking of power and water are nothing!
Just wait until one of your neighbours decides to renovate.
Nothing like the sound of angle grinders on concrete for 14 hours a day to make you feel like a Hong Konger! |
