I was told that this is a good place to live as a teacher teaching esl. I am going to be arriving in Taipei late August...is this area ok? If it is a nice area is it affordable?

Yeah Jeff, Mucha is very affordable. My g/f and I have our own 3 bdrm for 15000 and we may know of another for 12,000. Both brown and red lines of the MRT are easily accesible as are the highways should you have use of a car.

If my apartment were on the other side of the mountains, it would cost me 2x as much.

PM me if you are interested in the 3 bedroom for 12K and I'll set something up for you.

Mucha is really under priced for rent. The MRT is great and the zoo is right next door. There was a teacher a few years ago who used to give guided tours of the zoo in English at a very good rate of pay.
The job market is a little depressed right now but Taipei still has the best paying jobs available.

Pop Fly.
How should I put this. I try very hard not to criticize my peers, particuarly ones as well respected as yourself. I got a laugh out of your graphic avatar and as much as I share your sentiment regarding Hello Kitty, it may be getting a little old.
Don't you think your avatar may be a bit, well over the top?

Good luck!
A.

Well, this is personal and off topic, but let me just say that, as usual, Assistotle knows naught about what he posts .

a) You know nothing about my sentiment towards Hello Kitty.
b) My avatar is new, not old.
c) I am not your peer in any way.
d) I am not at all respected, by anyone, anywhere.
e)Even you don't know how "to put this".
f) The job market in Taiwan is healthy and very much alive ....
g) The zoo is actually in Mucha, not "next door".
h) I even doubt you laughed.
(i) It's from behind, not over the top.
(j) I don't need luck.

Now stay on topic, chicken little.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm sick to death of seeing Che Guevara everywhere I go.

It is kind of sad the way he has become a fashion symbol. Probably turning over in his grave.

Out of respect for the OP, I've cleaned up this thread as best I could and am now dumping it back into the pile.

Please, keep it clean and respectful.

Thx,
