You see a lot of teachers that carry small backpacks. It seems odd to me, but of course, I don't judge them. Cool

What do you use to carry your teaching materials and other items?

If I can fit everything in, a briefcase (but I only ever refer to it as "my bag" to minimise the jokes). If the stuff doesn't fit, a backpack - goes very well with my suit.

A backpack (I voted first in this poll!), which I bought for just 70 RMB.

It has served me well this past year or so, but it is getting frightfully dirty, since the dirt is easy to see against the yellow background. Several of my students have suggested that I have it cleaned, but I cite being too busy and too lazy as reasons for not having it cleaned! Very Happy

As well as my teaching materials, I carry in this backpack a spare, clean T-shirt, a small towel which I use as a sweat-rag and, the most indispensable thing of all, a toilet roll! In China, you really have to know where your towel and bog roll are! Smile

A backpack. Of course, where I work half the teachers wear shorts and T-shirts to work, so a briefcase or other would look quite out of place.

What about an 'other' option???

I use a bigger than A4-sized pocket-thingy. It's flat, black material with a zip at the top. I can fit in it my lesson plan, word cards, and a few resources. Things like my giant die I carry in my hand. Or, if there's a lot of extra stuff for some reason, a spare plastic bag.

I recently bought a laptop backpack for the few times I teach private classes, and want to carry my laptop without looking like I am. The backpack works very well for that purpose, but it was expensive and I wish I had more chances to use it! Evil or Very Mad

Hello sigmoid in Nirvana:

I voted 'briefcase' in the above poll

but what I carry around is more like a small suitcase. Laughing

In it, I carry the following items on a daily basis:

text books du jour (2 or 3)
copies of all master tests
1 copy of our placement test
1 photocopy of my passport
1 fold-away umbrella (black)
1 roll of toilet paper (white)
2 notepads (A-4 with lines)
1 mobile phone charger (Nokia)
1 plastic clothes hangar (blue)
1 pair of 'spare' socks (black)
an assorted selection of cheap neckties
scissors, pencils, pens, paper clips,
rubber bands, erasers &
1 roll of scotch tape
1 small calculator
1 travel-size toothpaste
1 toothbrush (medium)
1 bottle of cheap 'spray on' cologne
5 10-packs of Tylenol Extra Strength
1 pocket-size English <-> Thai dictionary
1 'back up pack' of L&M Red
1 to 2 kilos of assorted candy

I think that's everything.

Depending on where I've just been that day and what I have to carry, I could answer either a backpack or a satchel. Sigh. Only one option is possible on the survey, so I can't vote.

%$#^ the zip on my bag broke tonight trying to cram too much into it. What oh what should I replace it with. I am interested with this laptop back pack thing though.

You can buy a very sturdy little laptop sleeve that protects your computer. After the laptop is snug inside the sleeve, you can then put the whole thing in your backpack without worrying about other things bumping into your precious little machine.

Click here to see some examples. If you float your mouse over the links below the photo, you can see different colors and views.

I was just in the middle of a reply when the network went down... Stupid technology!

I carry a laptop backpack--as another poster mentioned, I can tote my laptop without looking like Im carrying it. Plus folders and materials, a snack (usually bread), a water bottle, and an umbrella that is useless here since the rain falls sideways. I used to carry another small backpack with my personal belongings, but it just got to be too much--hard to squeeze onto the metro and buses with 94 pounds of crap--so now I just grab my keys, money, phone, and comb and shove them into the laptop backpack.
