7th International Symposium on Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching

August 7-15, 2006 Beijing and Hong Kong

http://www.chinalinguistics.org/

Invitation

Dear friends and colleagues:

It is our honor to invite you to the 7th International Symposium on Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching (ISALLT). ISALLT Symposiums provide a unique opportunity for scholars from all corners of the globe to meet for the purpose of sharing ideas and enjoying the company of new friends and old, and meeting on those we only knew through e-mail or in print.

The theme of the symposium, "Innovation and Integration in Language Teaching", is a timely one. The fast changing world, the rapid development of science and technology and new research in language teaching all call for innovation, yet the basic task and inherent nature of language learning involve a respect for tradition and integration of the new with the old. International events have made everyone more aware of language and cultural differences among peoples, and these same events have made it imperative to create a world environment where differences can be appreciated. We, as applied linguists, have an important role to play in fostering tolerance through understanding. And Beihang University(BUAA) and Hong Kong Polytechnic University provide ideal venues. BUAA is a large university that represents the best of China's engineering education. In recent years it has evolved into a multi-disciplined, research-oriented university covering such diverse fields as science, technology, liberal arts, law, economics, management, philosophy, foreign languages and education. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a university with a proud and illustrious history. It is a prime aim of the university to equip students not only with professional competency but also the ability of independent thinking, good communication skills and a global outlook. The beautiful setting, stimulating intellectual program, and extensive social program provided by the co-sponsors for the symposium ensure that a memorable time will be had by all.

We personally extend our warm invitation to each of you, and we hope to see you in Beijing and Hong Kong.

Prof. Tang Dexin Prof. Grahame Bilbow

Who is so naive and silly as to accept this "invitation"?

It's a worthless, thankless exercise in image polishing by a local so-called "academy". Corvee labour.

You can call me silly but not naive.

There will be at least 1,000 participants from around the world just like at the 6th Conference last year.

BTW - last year 4 FEs teaching in China presented papers.
