Both Glenski and I proofread CVs. Before you do though, read the stickie on writing CVs and cover letters before you send it to me.

The stickie I have written applies to people applying for jobs in Japan and/or with japanese employers. You may be in the US but AEON is a japanese company. They may have a couple of hundred resumes to read and yours in just one of them. Japanese CVs by comparison tend to be work and education records while American CVs tend to be a laundry list of the achievements in that persons life.
A lot will depend on whether the person reading it is a native speaker of English or a japanese. I will assume a japanese speaker there will understand English but in my experience and considered opinion the function of a CV in the US and one here are different, and keeping in mind you are applying for an entry level job in japan, there is no need to throw everything but ther kitchen sink at an employer.
that is the feeling i get when i read American CVs.
Too overblown, verbose and hard-sell. Long bullets about job descriptions and hobbies. Irrelevant information unrelated to the job you are applying for here. High register language when the reader of your resume may have a 6th grade reading level in English.
You dont have to use big words just to show how well you can speak English as you are being hired as a native speaker and because you are not Japanese. keep language simple and to the point.
If an employer has any questions they can ask you in the interview, and generally speaking a CV here is kept to a maximum of 2 pages. 1 page is even better.
A Japanese employer here wont know what a GPA or a fraternity is is nor will they care. You have native speakers working in japan, from other countries besides America. A GPA average etc is irrelevant to working here. They are mainly interested in whether you have a degree, can speak English and can get a work visa, and that you are presentable enough that you wont scare off their students. They will probably also want you to do some kind of demo lesson as well. |

you can embed a photo in your resume by copying from your desktop. Usually I put it in the top right corner.
A couple of points about photos.
Same goes for passport photos, You are applying for work in an office so dress with business dress in mind. It doenst have to be Armani but looking like you are going to a barbecue is frowned on. No poses or cameor shots and it should be a clear head and shoulders shot. No big hats or headwear.
My email address you can get through my profile or I can PM you. |
