About a month ago a construction platform appeared near kiz kulesi. I wondered what it was. Yesterday another one appeared a few hundred metres away(almost opposite kabatas.) I decided to investigate and found out that a tunnel is being built (rail) between Uskadar and somewhere on the right hand side of the Halic.
I have 2 concerns.
1) the next platform will be directly infront of my apt. and block my view of the islands.(should I re-negotiate the rent)
2) The platforms and the area around them(there are bouys) are at the deepest point so what happens to the huge big tankers that need deep water?

I read about this a few months ago and saw something on it on CNN Turk, both in Turkish, so I am not sure that I understood completely Confused They are paying attention to environmental things such as the tankers and the fish migration. A Japanese firm is working with the Turkish firm to do the work. I think a tunnel is better than a bridge, actually. I think it will accommodate both trains and cars, but I am not sure. I am sure the platforms are temporary (as in a couple of years), so good luck with your view, dmb

thanks dmb-- though since I don't think it really started in 2003, it will probably not finish in 2007

Set up a Save Cihangir society consisting of ex pat TEFLers. To raise money you could have a TEFL house party.

I'll set up a GIVE 31 A HOLIDAY SOCIETY (or G 3 AHS for short) consisting of unhappy ex pats. To raise money we'll have a grouch-a-thon. I'm baking the cookies as I write. I'm thinking of sending 31 to some tropical beach Cool where he (he?she?) can sip sugary drinks with little umbrellas (although I don't think umbrellas drink much) by the resort's pool. Very Happy Sounds like he needs it! Very Happy

SURE!! That's a great idea! He, my 88 year old Turkish granny (who is verrrrry annoyed with being old) and I can sit and have a chat over little cups of ay. I'll put the kettle on, shall I, 31? Granny LOVES to tell stories of yesteryear and I am sure 31 will love to hear them as much as I do. Shocked I gotta run now and get that baklava on. What kind's your fav, 31?

Actually, a tropical beach sounds better...

If you can make your own baklava I will divorce my wife and marry you.

My favourite is fistikli.

What can your gran cook?

I do like hearing stories of Turkey in the old days and I am very interested in Ataturk. If gran is from Tekirdag she probably knows quite a few stories from the twenties.

Oh. My baklava is not so good so your wife, lucky gal, gets to keep you.
Sad

Gran doesn't cook. She can hardly stand.

Gran is from Izmir way. She did meet Ataturk, though.

Sorry, dmb, it seems your thread has been hijacked.
