Have you ever looked at the STUDENT side of...
http://www.findateacher.net/

Observations:

1. Yes, there are 1,000 yen an hour tutors. They look like escaped convicts from Iranian jails and their profiles say things like: "i love to teach english to the people of japan.life is to learn till end"

2. It only took me 5 minutes to find Mr.Bean. Picture for anyone who PMs me. *

3. It took me 15 minutes to find someone I knew in KOREA! He's charging 3,500 yen an hour. Funny, his profiles doesn't say anything about being a womanizer.

4. More teachers than I thought who are willing to teach for less than 3k (k=thousand) an hour. Whut up with that? Come on guys, don't sell your self cheap!

* Offer open to Daves ESL psoters only.

Why would students mention (Korean) won if they are living in Japan and are Japanese?

2. It only too me 5 minutes to find Mr.Bean. Picture for anyone who PMs me.

How can students PM each other when

1. There is no PM function on findateacher net

2. Becuase of privacy concerns the only way for students to contact is through the administrator. Students can not contact each other directly.

3. IT took me 15 minutes to find someone I knew in KOREA! He's charging 3.5 an hour. Funny, his profiles doesn't say anything about being a womanizer.

See number 1.

4. More teachers than I thought who are willing to teach for less than 3 an hour. Whut up with that?

Is that 3,000 won or 3,000 yen?

I was making 2,500 yen per hour with Findateacher as an undergraduate college student. I was unqualified to teach English, besides being a native speaker for conversation, and I was still earning $25 USD/hour. I would never have charged more than that without even a B.A. Back in the states, I was making $6.75 working at a Taiwanese tea shop. You can try and charge students what you think you are worth.

And, yes, what is all this nonsense about Korea and won? Did I miss something?

Just how did you view any teacher's data files anyway? I can't seem to find any link to them from that site.

Glenski,

There's a section on the main page called "What will my record look like". If you click on the highlighted "browsing" link, you can check out their current database (in Japanese) just like a potential student can, without the contact details obviously. You can see photos of teachers, how much they charge, qualifications, etc.
