I am off to Thailand to teach in September and can't decide whether to get a one-way or return flight. So two questions:

1. Can I still get a 60 day tourist visa with a one way flight?

2. How much, roughly, are one-way flights from BKK to the UK (preferably Manchester)?

I have no idea when I'll return to the UK or where from. The teaching post is for a minimum of 3 months (but I may stay there for longer, if they want me) and after that I will probably travel round Thailand and possibly Laos for a while. But after that I don't know what I'll be doing. I may be keen on getting home; I may want to stay in Thailand or an adjacent country to teach/travel for another few months or more; or I may decide to go to China, Japan or somewhere else. I've really no idea.

So do I buy a one-way or return ticket? I can get a o/w for about 312 from Manchester, but returns (for returning in about 10 months) seem to be 470+, not including costs for changing dates, though I haven't looked into rtn flights much. Which one i get depends largely on how much it is to fly from BKK to UK, probably not in peak season.

Cheers.

The first question should actually be can you get a one way ticket with a 60 day tourist Visa? And the answer is yes!

On the website below, I found a roundtrip fare,

Manchester - Dubai - Bangkok ... for 470 Pounds & change.

Just play around with the dates a little and do some searches,

or you could also call them in the UK at 0870 700 0543.

The link was recommended by a forum member, btw:

Thanks, but have you any idea of the cost one-way flights FROM Bangkok TO Manchester? I know you can get rtn flights from Man for about 470 but that's about 160 more than a o/w, so i would only want to get that if i was fairly sure i'd be returning from BKK or if the cost of a flight back from Thailand would be so expensive that it would be worth getting the rtn just in case. If it wld only be, say, 200 for a flight home from BKK then it wldn't be worth getting a return as I would not be saving much if i decied to return and would lose a lot if i didn't.

Why not just get a 6 or 12 month return ticket?

They are a bit more expensive than a normal 3 month but it gives you the flexibility you want and gets round any hassles with the check in desk about only having a one way.

The other advantage is that you have your return ticket. I know a few tales of folk who spent all their money out here and had to beg or borrow money for the return flight. Gives you peace of mind.
