Hey PAULH,

No worries whatsoever, I honestly didn't mean to offend anyone, or their girlfriend/wife.

Lister may have made a rude comment (I didn't see it as it was edited out) but that's no reason to close this thread.

As for Japanese language skill, I speak more Japanese than almost every other foreign guy I have met in Tokyo. Not to say my Japanese is good, but it's still better than most of these blokes who come over here thinking they are movie stars.

As for objectifying, I don't think there's anything wrong with looking at girls on the street, in department stores, etc. and admiring them for their beauty.

I've now forgotten what we were talking about before all this got started, but it would be great to get back to that, ha ha ha !

Hey SEndrigo, thanks for understanding.

There is just something that needs to be added here. SEndrigo and I weren't encouraging the objectification of women but discouraging people that fetishise a race. Its seems to me and SEndrigo at least that there is a certain amount of irony in a group of people fetishising over women with no particular standard other than race. And I'm sorry but there are characteristics that can be assumed to be in the less than desirable category whether it be men or women. If a person smells bad all the time, is extremely obese, missing all their teeth, they are usually working at a pretty big disadvantage. That's not to say they don't have excellent personalities, but the people we were talking about wouldn't care anyway.

I know this strikes close to home for some people, as I wouldn't want people speculating on my marriage to a Japanese woman being based on a fetish. I was talking about a subgroup of teachers that everyone knows exists and was speculating as to what percentage of the teachers here belong to this group.

Its strange how far out of context these threads were taken. The level of misunderstanding looked more like an attempt to misconstrue what I was saying in the hopes of making me look bad or unleashing a big argument.

However, it should be noted that offensive comments were made by both parties. Liz' dig at my "balls" and frequent accusations of shallowness were no less offensive than my comment that was taken out.

Furthermore, I acknowledge that I went too far in my defence and have already sent a private apology to both Paul and Liz yesterday.

For my part I would like to drop this altogether, but its hard when I'm being burned by the moderator for the whole debacle.

I liked the comment about seeing plenty of loser, winner guys with Japanese girls.
I've been trying to explain this to people for years. If your a winner then perhaps Japan is for you.

For the record, yes, Lister apologized to me in pm about offending me. And I apologize for the balls comment. When opportunity presents itself, especially when I'm upset, my dry humour comes out. Here, it was just below the belt.

I hope that nobody misconstrued my comment about loser and winner guys, whether Japanese or foreign. I'm not talking looks, but instead, behaviour, manners, respect for others, and grooming. In that order.

That's an insight for you guys about one average Canadian girl and how she sees guys, no matter where they come from.
