Hi all English Teachers,
Have you thought about moving to Thailand, if you have you could also study for a MA.
I have posted some information about two MA's below: I would greatly appreciate any comments you have regarding them. My job is to find out whether if would be feasible to run these programmes. i shall post the cost of the programmes shortly.
Background
King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) is working with Leeds Metropolitan University (Leeds Met) to provide an opportunity for teachers resident in Thailand to gain internationally accredited postgraduate qualifications in teaching English. At present, Leeds Met provides two MA programmes: one in Teaching English as an International Language (TEIL), and one in Materials Development for Language Teaching (MDLT), both of which are run full-time at Leeds Met or by distance. The cooperation between KMUTT and Leeds Met aims to provide a third choice for teachers in Thailand with the benefits of face-to-face learning with tutors without the need to relocate for full-time education. This third approach to MA study comprises a one-year part-time Postgraduate Diploma run by KMUTT in Thailand followed by one year of distance learning with Leeds Met supported by the resources and facilities of KMUTT to gain an MA.
Overview
The KMUTT Postgraduate Diploma takes one year to study part-time and the 18 credits gained can all be transferred to the relevant Leeds Met MA programme and will be counted as half of the credits towards the MA. The Diploma requires participants to take 6 courses at KMUTT in the evening, at weekends and intensively in the summer.
KMUTT Postgraduate Diploma for TEIL
Courses covered in the programme are:
 Language Learning
 Language Description
 Principles of Teaching
 Testing and Evaluation
Teaching the Spoken and Written Language
 Curriculum Design and Development
Completing these courses leaves students requiring to study 5 further courses with Leeds Met (Language Planning, Materials Development, Research Methodology, Corpus Linguistics, Conference Presentation) to gain an MA.
KMUTT Postgraduate Diploma for MDLT
Courses covered in the programme are:
 Language Learning
 Language Description
 Principles of Teaching
 Materials Evaluation and Adaptation
 Materials Writing I
 Materials Writing II
Completing these courses leaves students requiring to study 2 further courses with Leeds Met (Materials Development Research, Extended Individual Project) to gain an MA. |

For most teachers in Thailand the price you've mentioned in the other forum (6,000 quid) is quite high. I don't think you'd get many takers when there are Australian Uni's offering distance courses for less. |

Yeah , i know it is pretty high. I have just completed mine at the University of Southern Queensland in Australia. It cost me just over 4000 UK pounds with very flexible payments- you can pay per subject and i thought they were quite geared up for distance education. |
