I am teaching in China and plan to go to Thailand for a short holiday. Can anyone recommend a cheap place in Bangkok with a small bedroom and private bathroom? Need the same in Chiang Mai if anyone can provide recommendations. Thank you in advance. |

Just up from K/San rd on Samsen rd soi 6 there is a hotel called the Nakhorn Pink Hotel. It has decent sized rooms with private B/room for 200-250b a night. Its on the short time circuit true enough but that never seemed to impinge any time I stayed there. If you want cheap cheap there is the AP Guesthouse (past nakhorn first left first right)run by a fantastic old woman known the world over as Mamma and she charges 120 b a night or a hundred if she knows you. The private bathroom bit is not an option though. Its a good place to meet up with contacts and get information as a lot of hardcore travellers pass through there, admittedly more for the hostess than the building.
Even nowadays when I can afford the Mandarin Oriental I always head there for a day.
Good luck

Big John's Guesthouse is another option to consider.
Located within walking distance of the Skytrain
290-430 Baht for a single room
30 minutes of free daily internet access &
good food, from what I've heard:
http://www.bigjohnsworld.com/
A few more to browse through, starting at 610 Baht:

note: US$10 = 400 Baht |

Hi Carol,
In Bangkok, I usually stay at the Royal Hotel - it's a 2 star establishment. If you book through one of the agencies, it'll work out at around 24 CAD or AUD per night - bedroom and ensuite. The tariff also includes an excellent Western-type buffet breakfast.
I'll send a PM to you v.soon re Thailand.
Regards,
Peter |
