Bethany123,
Please bear in mind that the age of majority in Japan is 20, higher than Canada's 18/19.
This may be a barrier to employment in Japan, but a benefit if you want to come on exchange. You may still qualify for the Student Work Abroad Programme (SWAP), and I suggest you check out ngos and even churches and charitable organizations that could place you in Asian countries as an intern, volunteer or homestay.
If you're taking time out between schooling, check out http://www.gapwork.com/
http://www.yearoutgroup.org/organisations.htm
Sometimes there are opportunities in Asia, or chances to teach without a degree in other countries.
Here's an article about gap year, or taking a year out of your schooling to work abroad.

well I have a job in Nanchang, China. Anyone have more info on the place? It's a really professional school with a lot of local news publicity. It's called the Phoenix Foreign Language School. You're surprised they hired me? Ya, I am too. I would think they could find many other people more suited for the job, but I'm not complaining either. So I have my guard up because this almost seems too good to be true. If you want to check out the school here's the website (it's in Chinese but it's got pics):

I leave this coming Tuesday... It's all happened really fast, so any last minute advice on anything would be really great! If not I guess I'll let you all know how things are going in a week..!

| If I'm not mistaken the OP is from Canada where uni degrees are 4 years. |
In Eastern Canada, some provinces offer 3 year degrees. |

| If it is, then my advice would be to get yourself a four-year degree and a TEFL certificate with an observed teaching element (such as the CELTA), and some experience. |
The 120 hour TEFL course has observed lessons, just like the CELTA course. I agree, an English teaching course without observed teaching and feedback isn't credible. |
