Hi everybody,
Im a native speaking British Citizen with a CELTA. Ive been in Barcelona for a couple of days trying to find work and was wondering if anybody had any good advice..
Ive tried calling personally at the British Council and at the ICCIC and so far have been told by both that they *might* have something for me in a few weeks. Ive emailled a couple of the larger schools that I found at this link
http://www.infoidiomas.com/academias/cataluna/frameacademiascatalunya.asp
like Kingsbrook and Berlitz but so far havent had any response.
Has anybody got any suggestions where I should go from here?
Specifically, could any of you recomend any good language schools that will offer me a reasonable wage? Maybe you know of schools that are activly looking for Teachers right now? (maybe this would be too good to be true)
Also, would you recomend calling personally at language schools, emailling my CV to them or just phoning them? What has worked for people in the past?
Any help you could give me would be really nice..
Cheers

I had similar problems when I was in Barcelona a couple of weeks ago. Got my CELTA in june, got a few weeks experience at a summer school then headed out to sunny Barcelona. The main problem that I found was that none of the schools I spoke to could give me a definate answer, it was just "maybe" and "possibly". I recommend you go to the tourist info centre, they were really helpful and printed out names address' and phone numbers of every school in the city. I bought a map and went in search of school however after visiting 7 "schools" in one day only to discover 5 were now apartments, 1 was a printers and the other was closed, I resorted to phoning them. Didn't have a huge amount of luck but am heading back out next week for another attempt. Good luck |

If it all goes horribly wrong then just head to Madrid: plenty of work going here. |

Thank you both. Sorry to hear you didnt have much luck out here Donna. Im told this is the best 2 or 3 weeks to be out looking for work so hopefully things will work out for you.
Since I wrote that post Ive managed to get an interview with a language school about 20 minutes train journey from Barcelona. The job seems pretty good and the language school seem fairly well established. Vaughen Systems have also just written to me saying vaugely encouraging things so fingers crossed for 1 of them...
If I find a job and then hear of any good schools looking for people Ill put on this topic for you Donna..
Otherwise maybe I will head down to Madrid...
Cheers
