Taking the OP seriously has never seemed quite appropriate.
Here's one of the more surprising examples.

Hi,

I'm coming to Thailand from Canada ( by myself) in about 30 or so days. Is there anyone posting on these forums that is actually in Thailand right now?

I'd like to meet someone from these forums in Thailand that could show me the ropes around Thailand.

If you're up to this, it would be greatly appreciated. PM me.

Thanks,
Jamie

In 2001 I came to China to teach English, four years later I'm still here but am doing an entirely different line of work. There's been both highs and lows in this time, and there's many things I regret doing - but it's been quite the experience to say the least!

I'm leaving here (Canada) in August and I'm torn between these three countries on which one to teach English ? Crying or Very sad

Which one of the three countries is easier to get a job in ? (I only have a TESOL certificate, no degree).

Which one of these three countries pays pays more and has a lower cost of living? (The biggest gap in between your salary and actual costs). I don't want to be "just getting by". I'd like to be able to be comfortable and be able to travel after teaching for a year.

And finally, which one of these countries is the most laid back, or most different in terms of "the rushed" lifestyle of North America? (Think listening to Bob Marley, lazing on the beach to wee hours in the morning laid back). Cool

I'd really appreciate feedback and recommendations from those who really know. This is a huge decision for me to be doing this, I'm quitting my job and and not going back to school next year, so this is important ! Very Happy

I don't know what this guy's smoking but I want some.

Is someone going to answer the initial question of this post...????
Or are most ESL teachers so bitter and pessimistic that they just want to waste their precious time trying to entertain themselves.

Its not a difficult question.

Dear HED_KANDI, Getting a job in SH is easy - however many places may request a BA degree if they are going to provide you with a proper Employment visa/work permit, etc.......but if you just come here on a normal F-visa, then you won't need a degree.
There will be some schools/universities - that do specify they want teachers to have a BA degree, but this is usually for employment visa requirements only.
Regardless, there are so many places (primary schools, middle schools) and some private centers that are just happy to have a white foreign face in their classrooms.

as long as you're getting paid 120-150rmb/hr, then its ok.

Bigroh73, did you happen to read this? before you replied-

http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/job/viewtopic.php?p=238008&highlight=#238008

Some of us grew weary of responding to posters who appeared to be lacking in seriousness, and began having a glance at their previous posts, before replying. Hed_Kandi was one such.

I certainly respect your right, and that of others, to reply- in all seriousness- to any post you choose.

It's easy to suppose that the posters here (excepting those, like yourself, who've recently joined) should be "bitter, pessimistic"; or lacking in alternative entertainment. But, for the majority of us I think, that may not be the case.

VOLODIYA,

nice reply - my apologies for being too lazy to do some research into this person. I'm not that bored enough to bother investigating the background of every person who leaves a post here - and neither will I begin to do so.

If "some of us grow weary of replying to posters who lack seriousness",, then why are you so busy replying...??

If you don't like what they write, if you think its silly - why waste time giving their post any respect or dignity by offering a reply, no matter how sarcastic of genuine you may be. Its a bit like saying you hate living in China, but you keep living here.........many people like that here.

I have been living here in China for the past 5years, and reading Daves website for the past 4 years - so I've seen plenty of crap put on this website, and plenty of pessimistic boring ESL teachers leaving posts. So my comments are based on groundless insight or lack of experience or understanding in this industry.

Some people here are genuine, and leave constructive posts, which is good to see. I do look forward to communicating with you - seriously, in the very near future. Thanks for the post.
