I've seen this 'company's' advert several times. Anyone know anything about them?
No phone contact given.
No address given.
No website.
It seems they provide "education", but nothing else.

Hong Kong seems like it would be a great place to work, but I don't think I would travel half-way around the world without any info about the employer.

I think I saw that name linked to Deborah Kindergarten a few months ago. Not sure, but they advertised almost the same thing under this HKEP name but at the bottom of the ad the e-mail address was for Deborah.

Then there were some rumours on this forum about admin issues at DKG and I think they changed it.

Or it could be that Deborah outsourced their recruitment.

Hong Kong has a long way to go in regards to human resources.

The wacky interviews I've been to would make your head spin.

I have since learned that this "company" does not arrange visas until the teacher arrives and has already worked a couple of weeks, then must make a visa run to mainland China. I imagine this is to 'feel the teacher out' to see if they will be compatible. I don't know if this is common in Hong Kong, but I would be very hesitant to move to HK without a visa or any assurance of job security. Can someone tell me if this is typical in HK?

Sounds dodgy -- and illegal! I would not want to come to HK under such an arrangement.

Yes, it's illegal to work before you have your visa.

No, most companies won't hire you unless they have met you (and some won't before they've seen you in action).

The ones that do are mostly KGs or Chatteris- as far as I know - paying under HK$ 20 000 per month.

If the company's paying below the market rate then they need to take risks by hiring people they've never met. People currently in HK wouldn't work for less as they know the situation.

Having said that, most companies that hire you unseen will only process your visa once you're here as they have no idea what the correct procedure is anyway.

If you're looking for a company who will do the whole sponsorship exactly as it should be and according to the letter of the law i.e. get you all the papers and approvals before you set foot in HK - I don't think you'll find one.

It's like my ophthalmologist told me when I asked him about getting my eyes lazered: " If you're worried about coming out blind and you're going to keep coming back pestering me about itty bitty details, then NO it's not for you. Too many worries about too few risks - you're not the person who could handle it so keep your contacts or specs"

Depends on how much you want to be here and how much risk you're willing to take on e.g. job security, immigration, good employer, getting paid etc.

I value a good employer and knowing that I'm getting the market rate (and that they CAN pay it every month) above a letter or piece of paper saying "you have a job" and immigration's policies.

But that's me - and no I didn't have my eyes lazered but that's another story...

He said that at conferences not one of the Ophs there have had it done - they all wear specs or contacts. They're waiting for the longterm studies to be released and then they might have it done. They're more than happy to cut you - they just won't do it on themselves.

I know several people who have had their eyes done and they are just peachy. None of them register in the long term though. Take how many metaphors and literal meanings from that that you like...LOL
