Just wondering if anyone can tell me anything about the school or the city. I've been offered a job there and will most likely accept, but would like any gossip, advice about either cheers.

I worked there for one academic year. The teaching was hassle free and the school well resourced. There were also workshops etc.The flat was shared and on the edge of town. The salary was and is a disgrace in Poland. It is no longer a cheap option.I went there 11 weeks ago and I've been going back regularly since 1999,when I left.
Moreover, the reference I was given at the time, of which I still have a copy, was excellent so I fail to understand why a later D.O.S. there failed to verify it when asked to do so.
The town itself is OK and there are lots of nice bars and cheapish restaurants if that's your thing.Getting out and staying in hotels etc is not really much of an option on 1,500 zl a month though.I stayed in the shitti*** hotel there for a night in 98 and it cost 100zl.Electronic goods and clothes are the same price as England and sometimes more.Food on the other hand is cheap.
If you like milk bar cuisine, don't drink much and don't have to fund a younger student girlfriend then you'll manage.
Enjoy.

I was at Bydgoszcz last year at Bell Schoo, however I had a lot of contact with International House people. I can agree with what Biffinbridge says; also remember that, although the salary is low for Poland, it does include living costs. You will feel the need to escape from Bydgoszcz after a while, try Torun (the nearest city to Bydgoszcz) or Gdansk; they are both easily accessible by train; and both have the nice buildings and historical interest which Bydgoszcz lacks.

Hi Culfy? How's Cheltenham?
I worked with Culfy and agree with most of what he said. 1500z is a bit crap but you get free accommodation and IH say what they don't give in wages they make up for in training. Hmmmm .....
Last year's IH crew were mostly couples which made one's social life a bit boring, which is how some IH teachers hooked up with us from Bell.
Bydgoszcz isn't the best/ prettiest/liveliest, but Torun, Poznan and Gdansk are all within reach and the people are very friendly with very little hassle to be had. Unless you want the finest food and wine and a flashy sports car, you'll live a reasonable life on what you earn, and people are crying out for private lessons which can boost your income.
Failing that, form a crappy band that does offensively bad cover versions of songs that were already dire and you'll have girls throwing themselves at you and cash aplenty!

Cheltenham would be a hell of a lot better if the school I'm working at would offer me decent hours and actually tell me in advance when I'm working rather than 8:05 in the morning to tell me to travel on a half hour bus ride for 9:00 am. Not that I'm complaining.

Are you back at Bydgoszcz this year? Perhaps form your own crappy band this year; I hear there'll be a gap in the market.

Culfy - Ouch! That job sounds harsh!
Yep, I'm back in BigDump this year, going Saturday, in fact.
I hear Richard is forming a Celine Dion tribute act, called The Long Faces. Won't play outside of Bydgoszcz, though ...... You guessed it, TOO FAR!!!
