It's better than watching another belated season of Oprah on MBC or a 2-year-old episode of the Bold and the Beautiful.
But if I find someone who needs advice on an issue, I like to give it. That's pretty much it really. |

| Came here to share the difficulties I was experiencing at school and hoping to get advice, also to offer advice if possible. I continue to come here because I feel a sense of community. |

Came here to relax and totally bury the 'Naples experience'.
Why Thailand?.......Why Bangkok?.........
Live premiership football on TV in pubs/bars around the city.
Decent salary..don't have to price watch in the supermarkets.
Can eat out twice a day if i want..and i do.
A nice, spacious, modern 2 roomed apartment near the centre.
A contract with 11 weeks paid holiday and a guaranteed 4pm finish everyday.
Only required to plan 2 lessons per week.
Only required to teach 20 lessons per week.
Overload re pirate DVDs..have bought 120 so far and can afford to do so.
Plentiful supply of cheap original and fake footie shirts.
Lots of places to see on days off/weekends etc.
Satellite TV.
A tourist friendly city
Working at prestigious private catholic boys school not run of the mill language school.
24 hour shopping..if i am hungry at 4am i can pop out and get something.
That's what floats my boat and this place is like being in heaven compared to Naples. |

Sweetsee.....The legendary, arrogant, GB double olympic gold medal winning Decathlete Daley Thompson and I are one and the same when it comes to drugs...!
We don't dig them!!
Cannabis may be in plentiful supply here but i prefer to stay in my apartment not the Bangkok Hilton.....and don't fancy having to pay the 15-20,000 bribe to Bangkok boys in brown to get me off the hook!!
Taksin is altering the state of play in Thailand quite dramatically and the guy means business and does not mess around.
Re Qatar.. Mr dmb....i miss the money and the things it could buy and one or two friends but watching the premeirship live in Gullivers off Sukumvit Rd in Bangkok is infinitely more preferable than watching it in that godawful Ramada bar in Doha. For a start there are real live moving women in Gullivers not just a weary collection of sozzled Gulf expats!! |

I hear you, partner. Wouldn't want to go and get yourself in a whole heap of trouble over a little bit of vegetable matter.
Let me ask you a question for conversation's sake, how hard do you think it would be for a long time veteran of the teaching game in Japan to land a cushy job down there? In fact, doesn't have to be that cushy really, just something where kids want to learn English and I could support my family, preferably in a rural area, maybe a good private school.
Thanks for the shout Boy Wonder! |

I was lurking in the job listings for several months. Once I started getting nibbles, I started using the forums to glean information about various possibilities. I finally joined so that I could ask questions. Now, that I have found gainful employment, I'm hoping to be able to help some other newbie lurker in the same way that I benefited. (who knows, I might eventually know enough to be truly helpful.) Also, I'm hoping to make connections with other teachers, perhaps in my new neck of the woods. And, always, ask more questions.
Greetings to all! |

Greetings LadyJane,
What neck of the woods have you graced with your presence, if I might ask?

Hi Sweetsee,
I'm en route to Slovakia. Just a couple days to go and I'm very happy with the prospect. I thoroughly checked it out and it sounds like it will be a very nice place.
Thanks for asking.
