I voted for the option that I paid upfront and was reimbursed at the end of the contract but actually I get 1/2 after 6 months the rest and the end. That option wasn't there Confused

I paid up-front for a return ticket, then was reimbursed half after the first semester amd half after the second semester. Seemed resonable to me for the school to try and protect itself.

Yeah, same as Stil.
I actually like it that way, I can use the first semester reimbursement to travel during the Spring Festival holiday, the second semester reimbursement to buy a ticket home.

As stated in my post, my university gave me full reimbursement for Florida to Hong Kong AND Shenzen to Quanzhou within 2 weeks of the new semester.

18,200 yuan in cash, up front!

I paid my airfare to fly here. My contract says, one-way airfare paid after one month. I haven't been here a month yet. They will pay roung trip airfare for a one year contract, but only if actually travelled. However, I came here on a one-way ticket. I'm hoping to get them to fly me home at the end.

I have never received any monies right in the first few weeks or months; always promised "at the completion of your contract". Which gave them a strong handle to keep me in line, I guess.
But I have been paid in full every time. The exception was a school I bailed out after I found they complied with none of the official rules though they did pay me handsomely.

Reimbursement might be the way to go if you come straight from outside; if you live and stay here you have to settle for a compromise, I suppose. It usually is a flat payout.

One thing you can sometimes negotiate is a prorated addition to your monthly salary; this way you are bound to lose little if you get terminated prematurely. Some schools accept this.

And there seems to be a duty to collect tax on your flight reimbursement if it is traceable through the bank system. The preferred way to avoid paying a tax is by collecting it in cash.

I have heard TAX mentioned many times in these posts but I have been here for 7 months and am working at my second univeristy and have never been taxed.

Is this something that the schools are paying and should not concern me?

Like I mentioned the school gave me 18,200 yuan cash for flights but never mentioned taxes. I put 10,000 in the bank and they didn't question a thing.

Jeff if your salary is under 4500RMB there is no tax, anything over that should be taxed.

It will probably say in your contract how taxes are paid. Mine says the salary is after taxes, which the school pays for me. If in doubt ask your school. As for collecting tax on your flight reimbursement I am not sure...

Last job my monthly was 8000 rmb a month inc overtime. Never taxed directly. Never asked the school if they paid them.

Exactly our situation too.

Do most people have a limit on the amount their employer will reimburse or do they pay back 100%. We are getting the remaining half of our 25000 RMB return plane fare expenditure at the end of this month... Very Happy

Happy Days!!
