Hey everyone..
I am plan to visit southeast asia in the near future.. My plan is to Start in Bangkok and bounce around for about two weeks. Then I intend to stay a while in Laos and Vietnam. I have a few questions. Is it easy to book trains that run between the countries? About how long is it from Bangkok to Vientiane? Can I purchase visas in Bangkok? and for how much? If i live reasonably cheap ie; cheap accomidation, rice dishes, (I don't know if it's possible) stay out of the bars, how much should i have at my disposal?
How long would it take?
Thank a lot for your time, and if you have any other advise please include. |

Thailand to Laos. Absolutely no problem. Just go to the train station and get a ticket. Get buses between Laos and Vietnam.
About how long is it from Bangkok to Vientiane?
Overnight train from Bangkok to Nong Khai (the northernmost Thai town closest to the Laos border) is 12 hours, from there get a tuk-tuk to the border about 2 km, cross the border and it's a half hour taxi to Vientianne, about 200 Baht.
Can I purchase visas in Bangkok?
You can but no need really. You can get a visa at the Laos/ Thai border no hassle, just remember to bring passport photos with you.
.and for how much?
It's about $20 I think. Check elsewhere for Vietnam.

$20 a day is plenty if you're more interested in saving than comforts and buying trinkets and souveniers.
How long would it take?
How long would what take??

Advise: Don't bother taking malaria tablets.
Get a large bedsheet and get your mother to sew in half like a sleeping bag. You can sleep in this, no mosquito bites and not too hot.
Don't bring too many clothes.
