|
|
I am seriously thinking of moving to Taiwan in the next few months. But I have some questions I would like answered first before even considering a move.
1. How easy is it to land a job in Taiwan?
2. How difficult is it to get a public school teaching job there?
3. What are the procedures to landing a job?
4. Is immigration strict in their procedures to issuing an ARC?
5. I have a mainland wife, would it be possible for her to join me there?
I want to thank you all in advance.....cheers~! |

1. There's often 20-30 applicants per position. It's not easy. Sometimes there's nobody, but those jobs tend to be in places that make transportation to basic essentials expensive thereby depleting your income and sanity.
2. You need to be certified with proof from your home country. It is not that easy, it's harder work too.
3. Email & call. Make an interview ASAP & be happy/smile. Proclaim that you love everything about taiwan, don't ask questions until the end of the interview. Lie on your resume and delete non teaching experiences. Follow up every day or two until you get a straight answer.
4. It's not too bad but you can always be refused, and it takes a month to find out, that's lame.
5. Yes, as an assistant if you mean in the school. In the country, for sure. She will be treated and paid less well than you by all schools. |

1. That's complicated. A lot of foreigners are willing to break the law and they get work easily, with the risk of getting deported if they screw up. I've been trying to obey the law and getting a lot of grief for it.
2. Getting a public school job is very difficult, IMHO. I have a M.S. and a CELTA and the public schools want education-specific degrees.
3. To land a job, either come on a standard visa and get sponsored for an ARC very quickly -- that is a big risk -- or else come on an education visa and watch schools pass you over for other candidates.
4. Immigration doesn't seem strict until you run afoul of it and get into trouble. I've been toeing the line, so I haven't run afoul of them, but I also haven't been accomplishing much.
5. I have no idea. |
