Ah, October already...
I just got an offer from Profi-Lingua in Poznan. They said it's NO problem giving me the permit within Poland...sounds too good to be true. Any comments? (I'm skeptical). |

They might have connections with the Immigration office. I know that once when I went there I was told that I could submit my application to the authorities for a visa without returning to the States.
I told the school but they refused. They said that the application fee is high and there's no guarantee that I'll be approved. Yet I think they just didn't want to risk it.
At another place I worked at, they got me the visa when I went back home to the States. On the contract it said that I was not an employee yet but I was being paid advances on my contract. Luckily someone knew how to do it, most schools aren't aware of how it works. But if the school has a lot of teachers from outside of Europe it's safe to assume that they know something even if it's just how to get around the whole visa thing.

If you are not from the EU you can not be in Poland for more than 183 days in any 365 day period on tourist visas. Longer stay visas are only issued in the country where the applicant is legally resident. End of discussion.
It might be possible to somehow arrange for a person to officially not work in Poland so not need a work permit. But it is not possible for a person to be in Poland without a visa issued in their home country (as explained above).
Don't take my word for it. Ask a Polish consultate or an immigration lawyer. |

OK Alex and Gregory,
Thanks for the advice guys, jestem wdzięczny. Profi-Lingua seems confident they can go ahead and do it for me, BUT: now I need to get that "P...Zamolwodanie" (Residency Verification from a friend/landlord). Alex, is this the "legal residency status" that you referred to that I need to get the longer-term work permit (longer than 183 days, that is)?.
Whew, this school must be desperate for native speakers...
