I want to come at a time when I will have the most job options. It will be my first time in Taiwan. I've been warned that I will have to try a number of schools before I get a job--especially since I have no classroom teaching experience and I'm black.
Also, how does one go about setting up interviews? Do I just contact the Hess location for the US east coast? Or do I have to apply at each branch individually?
I plan to come in January. Please tell me if I should go the first, second, or third week.
Thanks for your help. |

Every school I went to told me that the best time is the start of August - although Taipei is pretty much saturated with teachers now - and even Canadians with three-years experience teaching here in Taiwan are struggling to find jobs.
Where my girlfriend works there is a lovely black lady there and she recounted some terrible stories of racism - such as working for an entire day for a Joy English school Branch and then being told at the end of the day taht she was fired because one of the parents didnt like her because she was black. She has a Masters in Education too!
Be prepared! |
