My husband and I are going to Vietnam to teach and I need some imput about banking from overseas... the only thing bill-wise we're going to need to take care of is student loans (which I'm assuming can be paid online). Should we keep our American bank account? Is there any way to deposit funds intos it while in VN? And if so, would we have to convert VND to USD beforehand? Any and all information on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

If you're going to be in HCMC try the Chohung Vina bank on Ho Tung Mau street. The staff speak good English, you can have accounts in dong or US dollars, they have internet banking as well as an ATM and their card also works at Vietcom bank machines.
All you need is your passport to open the accounts, and to send money overseas give them a copy of your workig contract or a letter from your school to prove that your money has been legally earned here. We have sent money to Canada, The Netherlands and S. Africa with no problem - fees about 300,000 dong.
We've been with them over a year now and have never had any problems at all with them and highly recommend them. |
